Find out which food delivery service in Singapore serves the best deals, plus credit card promotions you can use at Foodpanda, Deliveroo, and UberEATS.

When was the last time you came home after a long day’s work and really wanted to cook yourself up a solid meal? Yeah, didn’t think so.

If you’re anything like us, you’d save yourself the hassle of washing up pots and pans and whip out your phone to order dinner. Isn’t technology awesome?

But what to eat? And, given the proliferation of food delivery services in Singapore (what a godsend), which do you choose? Most importantly, which serves up the best deals?

We take a look at the three major players — Foodpanda, Deliveroo and UberEATS — and what each has to offer.

Foodpanda

The longest-running of the three, Foodpanda was launched in 2012, when Singapore was starving for independent food-delivery services. Proving just how much Singapore was crying out for such a service, Foodpanda reportedly saw a 400 per cent rise in revenue between 2015 to 2016.

Market segment: From fast food to hearty and inexpensive mamak food, to mid-priced Japanese restaurants, Foodpanda’s huge list of restaurants tends toward the more accessible, cheap-and-cheerful end of the market.

Average delivery time: Foodpanda lists a whopping 450+ restaurants that can get your food to you within 30 minutes.

Delivery fee: Depends on the restaurant — some levy a nominal S$3, others can charge up to S$12. More importantly, the minimum order amount from various establishments varies, too, with some restaurants requiring you to order S$60 and above to qualify for delivery, although most charge far less.

Special feature: For those midnight owls craving a late-night snack, Foodpanda offers 24-hour delivery. It also has a magazine for customers who want to find out more about Singapore while waiting for their dinner to arrive.

Deals: Until 31 December 2016, pay with your Citi credit card to qualify for 25% off orders for new customers or 10% off for existing customers.

Deliveroo

Since launching here in 2015, Deliveroo has expanded its operations dramatically, with a reported 110-per-cent jump in the number of delivery riders (from five to 550!) in just four months. Their website claims an average 30-minute wait time for delivery.

Market segment: Deliveroo’s roster of restaurants is curated to provide a range of options from burger chains to top Italian trattoria, although they do not offer “low-quality takeaway restaurants”.

Average delivery time: The Deliveroo website puts this at 32 minutes.

Delivery fee: There is a flat S$3 fee on each order, which makes for a more predictable meal cost.

Special features: Deliveroo has partnered with Grab (formerly Grabtaxi) to widen its reach in Singapore. According to Grab, the two on-demand giants want to encourage consumers to try out such services to help grow the “Singapore startup ecosystem”, and to this end are rewarding Grab customers with up to S$40 in Deliveroo credits per week (until 7 August). UberEATS

A newcomer with a big name attached to it, UberEATS harnesses the wide reach of popular car service Uber. The new standalone app and website depends on its fast-growing fleet of vehicles and drivers to fulfill delivery orders, in addition to a fleet of dedicated delivery motorcycles. It was launched here in May this year, and as of this month has partnered around 100 restaurants — some of which are at the higher end of the market.

Market segment: From Michelin-starred restaurants to more humble ramen joints, with more accessible fare to follow in time.

Average delivery time: The average order, says the website, takes 35 minutes to be fulfilled.

Delivery fee: Being new to the market, UberEATS is providing free delivery as of this month. Yay!

Special features: Like Uber, UberEATS can access the credit card you have linked to your account, which makes it a cinch to start ordering. You can also track the location of your order as it makes its way to your doorstep.

Deal$: Besides free delivery, new users can enjoy S$10 off their first order using the promo code “eats-UberSgFreeCredits”.
