Perhaps you are a fan of a particular director’s work or production, and you'll give all their movies at least one try. Or maybe some friends of yours hyped up a Movie but you didn’t like it. Regardless, of whether you've idolized certain directors' work or tried to like a movie becaue your friends liked it, we get a little disappointed when some movies doesn't click with us. Here are 20 movies these people were supposed to like but didn’t work out for them.

1. Tenet (2020)

Somebody commented, “Tenet. I like Nolan's movies, especially Inception. This was supposed to be the spiritual successor to Inception—this slick, modern Bond-type action heist movie with gunfights, explosions, car chases, well-dressed men, a femme fatale, an awesome soundtrack, and a mind-bending concept. But it ultimately felt a bit hollow to me. And I've seen it a few times. The action choreography was cool, the concept was cool, but I just didn't care much for the rest.”

Another one replied, “For me, I just couldn't make myself care about the main character. He just felt so ‘flat'. He was kind of walking the viewer through the movie but didn't have any personality, stakes, or anything I should like or care about.”

Finally, the third added, “Totally agree it was terrible.”

2. The Irishman (2019)

“The Irishman. Casino and Goodfellas are two of my all-time favorites, but the CGI just kept taking me out of this movie,” said one.

“Just commented the same thing. I'll stick to Goodfellas and Casino,” replied another Redditor.

“It's a shame they felt obliged to stick with De Niro, Pesci, and Pacino. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love all 3, but they were just way too old,” added the third one.

3. Dunkirk (2017)

One Reddit user said, “Movie is gorgeous but kind of boring.”

Someone replied, “I didn't like this one either.”

Then another one added, “Nolan and his terrible sound mixing.”

4. The Blade Runner (1982)

“[The Blade Runner movies], I really am trying to like them,” said one person.

“I didn't like the first movie much on first view. I have watched it again a few times and feel the same, but have come to love the futuristic world it built.”

5. Avatar (2009)

One person shared, “I tried to watch the first Avatar twice but couldn’t get myself to finish it. Maybe I’ll give it another try in the future.”

Somebody replied, “I just watched them both this weekend, and what I came to understand is, Avatar is a fine background film. It's a movie I can have on in the background while doing something else. I can also walk away for 5 minutes and come back and be right where I left off. My thoughts might be very different if I'd seen it in a theater.”

6. Last Night in Soho (2021)

“Last Night in Soho, I really tried,” commented one user.

“This is my biggest disappointment from one of my favorite movie directors I may have ever seen, I love Edgar Wright movies, but I hated this one with every fiber of my being, and it made me question if his style hit its expiration date for me or if he's not mature enough to make this kind of movie. I always feel like I have to bring it up just because of how disappointed I was,” replied the second person.

“I loved it at first, then its flaws became clearer the more I thought of it,” another one added.

7. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (2010)

Somebody commented, “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. It's not remotely a bad movie, but I just can't connect with it the way so many others do.”

The second person replied, “One of my most hated movies of all time, I despise everything about that one.”

Finally, the third added, “Yeah same with kicka-. I feel like I was just a few years too old to enjoy those 2 movies like everyone else.”

8. Lady Bird (2017)

“Lady Bird. I'm probably the only person who didn't like it. I think I interpreted the story in a different way than others,” commented one.

“It's so boring that I couldn't even finish it,” replied another.

9. The Northman (2022)

“The Northman. I wanted to like it so badly since I love The Witch, but it was so… bleh,” one person said.

“Yeah, I watched The Northman, not knowing much about it and had the same reaction. I looked it up afterwards and was astounded by how much the critics loved it when it felt like another generic revenge flick to me,” the second person replied.

“I thought the end fight of The Northman was so poorly done, the lighting was brutal you could barely see anything. Probably to save money. I still enjoyed the story but definitely wasn’t as impressed as many of my friends,” somebody added.

10. Nope (2022)

One user commented, “Nope. I really wanted to like it. I realized I wasn’t when I caught myself checking the time. Then doing the math in my head to determine how much longer until the film ended.”

Another person replied, “I was surprised by how much I didn’t like this movie.”

11. Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022)

“Apparently, Everything Everywhere All At Once,” somebody stated.

“I agree. I respect its accomplishments and am glad people enjoy that movie, I personally just didn’t care for it,” the second person replied.

“I like the movie, but I wouldn't have minded if they held back just a little on some of the cringey humor. Some of it was just too weird,” the third added.

12. Knives Out (2019)

“Knives Out taught me that Rian Johnson can only write characters whose personalities and motivations can be completely described in one or two lines of text. Also, the way time-specific references and lingo are used constantly by the characters means that the Knives Out movies will feel dated in like two years,” said one.

“This movie is a great example of a problem I call ‘Too many characters, not enough human beings'. The movie just feels like a cartoon made up of 1 dimensional characters who all feel like some sort of stereotype. I have a really hard time getting invested in a movie that feels so inauthentic,” replied another.

“Agreed. That film was just AWFUL,” added another in agreement.

13. The Dark Knight (2008)

One Reddit user shared, “The Dark Knight never clicked for me.”

Another commenter replied in agreement, “Same here. Outside of the Joker, I find that movie to be pretty forgettable. Honestly, I'm just not a fan of Christopher Nolan in general. His movies always feel kind of dull and sterile to me in a way I can't really explain.”

14. Forrest Gump (1994)

“I swear Forrest Gump is really just a guy with a mental handicap telling stories to the local town folks. They all act like they never heard of him or his great adventures thru the years. Doing this as a favor to his caregivers/state so he doesn’t lose cabin pressure,” one person commented.

“I viciously hate Forrest Gump. The main character doesn't cause anything to happen the whole movie; he just lucks his way through life as quirky things happen to him. He's also extremely stupid—not just slow, but also completely lacking any sort of insight or wisdom—which makes him completely unrelatable,” the second person replied.

15. Shaun of the Dead (2004)

Somebody stated, “Shaun of the Dead.”

Another person replied, “Couldn’t agree more. I was mystified when I watched it because it had so much hype and then there are no jokes in the movie. None that evoked any laughter, at least. Over time, I’ve come to realize I hate the movies of Edgar Wright.”

16. 1917 (2019)

One user shared, “1917—The tracking shot didn't work for me. It felt like watching a video game walk-through on YouTube, and I got bored about 45 minutes into it. The tracking shot is a gimmick, and the movie didn't have much else going for it.”

Somebody replied, “I watched a clip of one guy running along the front of a trench as other soldiers were charging. It was goofy and gave me a serious reservation about watching the whole movie. It didn't help that I had just watched [All Quiet on the Western Front] a day before.”

17. Mulholland Drive (2001)

“Said it once, and I’ll say it again, Mulholland Drive. It’s not that I don’t understand it, it’s that it seemed so clunky to me and contrived. I usually like David Lynch, but this one never clicked for me,” somebody commented.

18. Star Wars (1977)

One Reddit user shared, “I couldn't get into it no matter how many times I tried watching them (whether it's the prequels, the original, or even the sequels). The only thing enjoyable about the sequel trilogy was my dad's reaction, where he rants about the original characters getting killed off in each movie (except for Leia, because it's pretty understandable by that point).”

19. School of Rock (2003)

“School of Rock. Absolutely hated it, hated the kids, hated Jack Black's performance, hated the premise. I just don't understand why people love it so much. A bunch of kids miss a semester of school with a guy who could be (but isn't) a child m-l-ster. And no one bats an eye. I'm sorry if you love it, as many people do. But for me, it was cringe, overacting, annoying entitled children, and 2 hours of my life I will never get back,” somebody commented.

20. The Lobster (2015)

One person stated, “I love quirky movies with unconventional humor and whimsical plots, but it was so annoying. I kept stopping because I couldn’t stand it, and then I remembered all the good reviews and came back. Finally, at 3/4 of the film, I gave up. Couldn’t stand it anymore.”
