10 Movies That Are Hands Down the Funniest Films People Have Ever Seen

The visual medium of storytelling grants many liberties. We jump, we cry, and we laugh. So here is a list of ten hilarious movies film enthusiasts resort to when they need a good, uproarious laughter session.

1. Blazing Saddles

Filmmaking in the 70s favored two genres, westerns and satires. Mel Brooks directed Blazing Saddles, a western satirical about a black sheriff a-igned to protect the town of Rock Ridge. Several Blazing Saddles fans claimed this movie is the funniest film they've ever seen. Still, due to evolving language use of the stress of politically correct discourse, today's audience might not find Blazing Saddles amusing.

2. Scott Pilgrim

Based on Bryan Lee O'Malley's graphic novels, Scott Pilgrim focuses on the titular character, a nerdy 20-something in love with a dyed hair beauty on roller skates. However, the girl he pines for has seven evil exes worth of baggage. Through deadpan delivery and bizarre plotlines, Scott Pilgrim delivers a hysterical story.

3. Airplane!

Comedians love parodies. Airplane! is a 1980 film that parodied disaster films of the previous decades. Airplane! centers around a flight struck with food poisoning, and the crew and cabin turn to their last resource to save the flight from going down—a drunk pilot.

4. Napoleon Dynamite

The cla-ic cla- president satire places Napoleon Dynamite, a friendless high-schooler, in a challenging situation when his caretaker becomes injured and he has to live near his football-obsessed uncle.

Soon, Napoleon becomes friends with Pedro, a new student who speaks little English. The duo begins a cla- president campaign for Pedro, and Napoleon strives to attain friendship with the socially awkward, side-ponytail-adoring Deb.

5. Mean Girls

Regina George, anyone? Mean Girls presents one of the most infamous and cla-ic tales about the high school commodity known as “mean girls.” When Cady Heron moves to the U.S. from Africa, she learns the meaning of cliques and the meaning behind true friends. She's in for a surprise. With a star-studded cast, Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, and Rachel McAdams deliver unforgettable performances from the best film of 2004.

6. Bridesmaids

Cable TV might have exhausted Bridesmaids' comedic value by showing it every weekend on every significant cable station. Still, when the 2011 film debuted, it flew to the top of comedian lists. With hilarious talent encompa-ing Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, and Kristen Wiig, Bridesmaids offers a foil between an engaged, well-off bride-to-be (Maya Rudolph) and her needy, single best friend (Kristen Wiig), who happens to be the maid of honor.

7. A Dirty Shame

A Dirty Shame is my favorite John Waters film due to its hyperbolic humor. The premise is so bizarre it borders on bad. When a tense woman, Slyvia Stickles, gets hit on the head, she transforms into an amorous woman determined to find her new suitor, Ray Ray. Everything from the set design to the characters' names is exaggerated in this film, and the dialogue is crude and atrocious; you can't help but laugh.

8. Harold and Kumar

Ever heard of White Castle? When Harold and Kumar get their hands into some devil's lettuce, they become entranced by a White Castle commercial and chase their munchies all over New Jersey to find the fast food haven known for its sliders. Along their excursion, the two run into Neal Patrick Harris, drive-thru mishaps, and unexplainable encounters with other New Jersey residents.

9. Blockers

When three high-school best friends pledge to lose their virginity on prom night, their parents learn of their agendas and try to infiltrate their plans. With a fantastic script and an excellent cast, Blockers delivers a unique coming-of-age tale beaming with humor.

10. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is the perfect dad movie. The slapstick film follows the Griswolds, a family that hopes to have a fabulous Christmas, but when a rowdy cousin shows up, the plans shift.

One fan said Christmas Vacation ranks among the funniest movies they've ever watched. “It's dated and a holiday movie, but Christmas Vacation cracks me up every time I watch it. Almost every line has a comedic attribute and hits home for me.”
