Can you name a Film that started with an amazing idea that couldn't fail, but the film just fell flat on its face somewhere between the end of the first act and the end? One person asked the question, “Which Movie were you disappointed that they had a good interesting concept at the beginning but they abandoned it halfway through?” Here are the best responses.

1. In Time (2011)

This movie began with a well-thought-out sci-fi premise, where your time is your money, and you can live forever if you are wealthy. But the directors forgot what the movie was about somewhere along the lines, and it devolved into another crime thriller.

2. Hancock (2008)

Hancock truly felt like two movies mashed together at their respective halfway points. This movie had a lot of characters and was full of fun. However, once Hancock went to serve a sentence, the feel of the movie switched big time. It goes from a story about a superhero who couldn't care less about anything to a story about long-lost love. Huh?

3. Downsizing (2017)

A Norwegian scientist develops an “irreversible process that shrinks organic material to combat global warming and overpopulation.” This process is known as “downsizing.” Unfortunately, Paul (Matt Damon) decides to undergo the permanent process with his wife, who backs out at the last second. The movie only gets weirder from there.

4. Mortal Kombat (2021)

Everyone knows and loves the Mortal Kombat video game franchise, and so many more of us like at least one of the previous movies. So when HBO announced the release of the reboot film, it was safe to say that viewers were excited.

What the viewers received was far less than stellar. Many agreed, “It should have been a Scorpion vs. Sub Zero movie.” And there was no need to introduce a new character when there were so many other current characters to choose from if you really need to dive into someone's backstory.

5. Jumper (2008)

A 2008 sci-fi film loosely based on Stephen Goulld's novel. It was supposed to be about a young man who can teleport anywhere he wants to at will, who is intensely pursued by a secret society that wants to see him and anyone like him dead.

6. Passengers (2016)

Passengers was a science fiction romance about two passengers on an interstellar, 60-light-year trip. But something goes wrong during their trip. A few passengers are awakened 90 years too early from their induced hibernation. One passenger awakens another intentionally and then spends the rest of the movie trying to convince the audience they are not such a bad person.

7. The Island (2005)

A dystopian sci-fi action thriller that, in typical Michael Bay fashion, turns into a straight-up action film in no time. The amazing cast included Ewan McGregor, Scarlett Johansson, Djimon Hounsou, Sean Bean, Michael Clarke Duncan, and Steve Buscemi.

The movie starts with the inhabitants of a world no longer suitable for survival, so they live in an isolated facility to protect them from the harmful effects of the current world. But when the main character begins to question the world around him and his place in it, things quickly begin to change, and that's when the story takes a hard detour, Michael Bay style.

8. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)

In the fifth Jurassic Park film, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard's characters return to the fictional Central American island of Isla Nublar to rescue the island's remaining population of dinosaurs from an impending natural disaster. The trailers fool you into thinking that you are going to get a great Jurassic Park movie with dinos on an island, but the pull the ole switcharoo. Most of the film takes place inside a mansion, and the viewers never really get the movie they wished for or even deserve.

9. Elysium (2013)

Is another dystopian film that took a bit of a different approach. In this film, Matt Damon plays an ex-con who lives on the polluted, overpopulated, and diseased planet Earth in the year 2154. In this rendition of the world dystopia, the elite one-percenters live on a beautiful space station just outside the orbit of the decaying planet Earth, Elysium.

At the same time, the rest of the 99% are left to fight for whatever resources remain. On Elysium, there are med-bays that cure any and every disease or injury known to man. The separation of resources causes a world of trouble for these two groups of people.

10. Prometheus (2012)

Set in the late 21st century, this Ridley Scott film follows the crew of the spaceship Prometheus and their exploration of the newly discovered star map to figure out the origins of humanity. But their odyssey lands them on a planet that no one has any business being. 

Prometheus follows the crew as they learn the origins and plans of the beings they refer to as the “Engineers.” It was clear this movie wasn't the best it could be. It seemed like they fired an excellent writer to bring in a newer, cheaper one to save money. “The map expert gets lost, the biologists touch everything, and everyone seems to hate each other and not get along or coordinate.”
