CVSA Brake Safety Week is Here! Complete Survival Guide

CVSA Brake Safety Week is coming up from September 15-21, 2019.

Brake Safety Week is a weeklong effort to enforce and spread awareness about the importance of brake system truck maintenance.

Be sure that your commercial truck maintenance is taken care of because tons of CVSA inspections will be taking place across the country.

If you’re not sure what’s included in truck maintenance for Cvsa Brake Safety Week, we’ve put together a complete guide for CVSA 2019.

CVSA 2019

Truck Driver Regulations

Brake violations are responsible for around half of all out-of-service violations.

CVSA Brake Safety Week is an opportunity to enforce regulations and highlight the importance of a properly functioning vehicle braking system.

This year’s CVSA inspection focuses on brake hoses and tubing. One major violation that the CVSA has found is chafed hoses, worn through the reinforcement fabric of the hoses or into the white color of thermoplastic hose.

Commercial Truck Maintenance

Besides performing routine truck maintenance on your vehicle, the best way to prepare for CVSA 2019 truck inspections is to make sure that your company, or you if you’re an owner-operator or fleet manager, has checked all brakes for proper adjustment.

If they’re out of adjustment, get them serviced. Self-adjusting brakes should not be manually adjusted. This indicates that something else is wrong.
Conduct your pre-trip inspections thoroughly and look/listen for chafed hoses and air leaks.

During a CVSA inspection, you can expect the inspector to check your credentials, crawl under the truck to measure pushrod stroke on drum brakes, check brakes, and potentially look at tires, lights, and other required equipment.

If no critical item violations are found, the inspector will place a CVSA inspection decal on the vehicle.
