The lower than anticipated January and February Retail sales results have not wavered wholesaler/supplier confidence for the spring and summer shopping seasons. In our latest Global Retail Manufacturers and Importers Survey we asked our clients, retail importers and manufacturers that sell to major retail outlets across the U.S., how the upcoming spring/summer retail season will perform. They reported back with good news.
Here are some key highlights about the upcoming season:
- 75% of suppliers expect retail sales to significantly outpace the gross domestic product for the spring and summer shopping season
- 45.5% believe that the spring/summer seasons will be stronger than last year
- Nearly 90% of importers and suppliers are reporting reorders for the spring/summer season
Also, given that so many U.S. retail goods are produced in China, the devaluation of the yuan is increasing production in the country and increasing margins.
- Half of the respondents are considering increasing their Chinese production due to the strong dollar vs. the yuan
- 37% believe that margins may increase due to the lower cost of producing goods in China
