Self-Proclaimed BTC Creator Craig Wright Held in Contempt of US Court

  1. Craig Wright has initially been held in contempt of a court in the US for not complying with requirements.
  2. Wright needs to pay $143 million to a firm that sued him back in 2018 for stealing 1.1 million bitcoins.
  3. Wright is an Australian computer scientist who openly says that he is the creator of Bitcoin.

For those who are not aware, Wright is the person who openly claims, to this day, that he is none other than Satoshi Nakamoto — the enigmatic creator of Bitcoin. Many people in the industry do not believe his claim for a number of reasons. However, Wright has taken them to different courts and in some cases, won.

Now, US District Judge Bruce Reinhart of the Southern District of Florida has initially held Wright in contempt for not supplying accurate information about the above-mentioned $143 million.

This was the amount awarded by a Miami jury to the said firm that sued Wright for allegedly stealing 1.1 million bitcoins from David Kleiman, Wright’s co-founder of the firm that died in 2013.

After Kleiman’s death, his brother Ira reinstated the said company and proceeded to sue Wright both for allegedly stealing the bitcoins as well as intellectual property related to Bitcoin from the firm.

Given today’s market prices, the 1.1 million BTC in question should be worth around $32 billion.
