Iraqi Judicial Authorities Confiscated Form Oil Minister Property on Corruption Charges

According to Iraqi News Agency (INA), the Iraqi Judicial Authorities have confiscated the properties of former Oil Minister Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar Ismail on charges of abuse of office and fraud.

According to the agency's source, an investigative court accused Ismail of abusing his position and accepting bribes from investors with contracts with the Oil Ministry.

Previously, Ismail was the Director General of the state-owned Basra Oil Company before serving as Minister of Oil in the government of former Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi in 2020.

Ismail was accused of corruption, according to media reports earlier this year, and the Iraqi judiciary investigated those allegations, including the seizure and illegal sale of oil ministry lands in Baghdad and Basra, as well as accusations that he demanded payments from foreign firms for awarding contracts.
