The highly anticipated Cheltenham Festival 2023 is now well underway, and the first day of racing did not disappoint. It was an explosive start to the four-day festival, with a number of races and unforgettable performances. Here are all the race finishes from day one of the Cheltenham Festival 2023:

The first race of the day was the Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, which saw a thrilling finish. Favourite Al Boum Photo took the lead early on, but it was eventually pipped at the post by the second favourite, Appreciate. The closing stages were tense, but Appreciate held on to win by just half a length.

Next up was the Racing Post Arkle Chase, which saw another exciting finish. All eyes were on hot favourite Shishkin, who ran an incredible race to win by seven lengths. The Colin Tizzard-trained Chantry House took second place, with Captain Guiness coming in third.

The Ultima Handicap Chase was a tricky race to call, and it was the outsider, Horse No.14 that came out on top. Trained by Willie Mullins, the horse put in a strong run on the home straight to win by four lengths. Second place went to Happygolucky, with Espoir De Guye in third.

The fourth race of the day was the Champion Hurdle, and it was a closely-fought contest between a number of horses. But in the end, it was the impressive Goshen that took the victory. Trained by Gary Moore, the seven-year-old surged clear on the home straight to win by six lengths. Honeysuckle took second place, with last year’s winner, Epatante, coming in third.

The Mares’ Hurdle was dominated by the hugely talented Concertista, who won by an impressive 12 lengths. Trained by Willie Mullins, the horse put in a dazzling display of speed and stamina to claim its third victory at Cheltenham. Second place went to Hook Up, with Glens of Antrim in third.

The final race of the day was the National Hunt Chase, which saw another surprise victory. The outsider, Bob Olinger, put in a tremendous performance to win by five lengths. Trained by Henry De Bromhead, the horse made a stunning move on the final bend, leaving the rest of the field trailing in its wake. Second place went to Fiddlerontheroof, with Galvin in third.

Overall, it was an unforgettable day of racing at the Cheltenham Festival 2023. With plenty more action still to come over the remaining three days, it’s clear that this year’s event is set to be one of the best ever.
