Haryana Sees Surge in Wheat Procurement

India ranks second in wheat production worldwide, with many states contributing significantly to this output. Haryana stands out as one of the leading states in wheat production. We’ve previously published several blogs on wheat production and trade in India. Today, we will delve into detailed insights about wheat procurement in Haryana.

Wheat procurement in Haryana is progressing rapidly. By the second week of May 2024, government agencies have already procured 86% of the wheat harvested from mandis in Jhajjar district. A total of 1.91 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has been purchased in the district, out of which 1.65 lakh metric tonnes have already been lifted.

Wheat procurement and pickup in Jhajjar District

According to Tribune’s report, the following quantities of wheat have been purchased in various mandis of Jhajjar: 42,235 metric tonnes in Jhajjar Grain Market, 10,588 metric tonnes in Badli, 8,372 metric tonnes in Dhakla, 47,811 metric tonnes in Beri, 20,262 metric tonnes in Matanhail, 34,193 metric tonnes in Majra, 17,912 metric tonnes in Chhara, 987 metric tonnes in Bahadurgarh, and 8,956 metric tonnes in Asauda Procurement Center.

Out of these, 39,933 metric tonnes in Jhajjar, 9,811 metric tonnes in Badli, 6,810 metric tonnes in Dhakla, 46,033 metric tonnes in Beri, 13,679 metric tonnes in Matanhail, 24,516 metric tonnes in Majra, 14,500 metric tonnes in Chhara, 987 metric tonnes in Bahadurgarh, and 8,956 metric tonnes in Asauda have been lifted so far.

Wheat procurement and pickup in Faridabad and Palwal districts

The wheat procurement and pickup process is progressing rapidly in Haryana’s Faridabad and Palwal districts. Nearly 95% of the purchased wheat in these districts has already been picked up. However, 1.56 lakh quintals of wheat remain in the mandis, scheduled to be picked up by the last week of May.

According to The Tribune, a total of 29.20 lakh quintals of wheat have been purchased and arrived in Faridabad and Palwal districts. In Palwal district, 20.93 lakh quintals have been procured, while approximately 8 lakh quintals have been purchased in Faridabad district. Wheat has been completely picked up from mandis in Palwal, Barauli, Chandhut, and Aurangabad villages. In contrast, Hodal in Palwal has seen the lowest pickup rate, with 89% of wheat being collected. In Faridabad district, 37 thousand quintals of wheat still need to be picked up. Official wheat procurement commenced on April 1st, with pickup starting on April 12th.

Wheat pickup in Yamunanagar district

Recent news from Yamunanagar district has highlighted a significant achievement. The administration here has picked up 93.89% of the wheat from the district’s grain markets. By May 10th, government agencies have purchased a total of 2,90,051 metric tonnes of wheat in the district, out of which 2,72,328 metric tonnes have already been picked up. There are still 17,723 metric tonnes of wheat left in the markets. The grain market of Yamunanagar city has seen the highest pickup, with 100% (275 metric tonnes) of wheat already lifted.
