Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], October 24 (ANI): Quinton de Kock, the South African opener, played a remarkable innings, scoring 174 runs against Bangladesh, which significantly contributed to the Proteas’ total of 382/5 at the renowned Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Aiden Markram, leading the South African side, won the toss and opted to bat as the match commenced. Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks formed the opening partnership. While Hendricks showcased a promising performance, he was eventually dismissed by Shoriful Islam after amassing 12 runs in 6.1 overs, with the Proteas standing at 33-1. In contrast, Quinton de Kock continued to shine, accumulating an impressive 174 runs from 140 deliveries, showcasing a striking strike rate of 124.29, and hitting 15 boundaries along with 7 maximums.

Following Hendricks’ departure, Rassie van der Dussen replaced him but had a brief stint, facing only seven balls before being dismissed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz for a solitary run in 7.5 overs, leaving the Proteas at 36-2.

During the initial powerplay, both teams performed evenly, with South Africa amassing 44 runs, while Bangladesh managed to secure two vital wickets. South African skipper Aiden Markram joined forces with de Kock after van der Dussen’s dismissal. Markram contributed significantly to a partnership with de Kock, bolstering South Africa’s position. However, Markram was eventually dismissed by Shakib after scoring 60 runs from 69 balls in the 30.4 overs.

The Proteas reached the 100-run mark in 20.2 overs and continued to surpass 200 runs in 35.5 overs, after facing a total of 215 deliveries. In the second powerplay, South Africa accumulated 194 runs, losing just one wicket in the process.

Hasan Mahmud from Bangladesh played a crucial role for his team, claiming the pivotal wicket of Quinton de Kock in the 45.1 overs, with the Proteas at 309-4. Heinrich Klaasen sustained his excellent form, contributing 90 runs to the score. Klaasen’s innings featured 2 fours and 8 sixes. Nevertheless, Hasan Mahmud secured his second wicket by dismissing Klaasen in the 49.2 overs, leaving the Proteas at 374-5.

As the innings concluded, David Miller and Marco Jansen took over. Miller contributed 34 runs from 15 balls, while Jansen managed only a single run after facing a solitary delivery.
