Wanted Criminal in India

It was among the most catastrophic series of bomb blasts in Indian history. It killed 350 people and wounded 1200 more. It is also claimed that he played a significant role in the 2008 Mumbai terrorist strikes.

He is claimed to have had a strong relationship with Osama Bin Laden, the late Al Qaeda leader. He had also been involved in the IPL spot-fixing incident. Ibrahim has also been involved in forging Indian currency and narcotics trafficking. He also occasionally jeopardizes India’s commercial and geopolitical interests. Ibrahim is now allegedly hiding out in Karachi, Pakistan.

Early Years

He was born in 1955 in erstwhile Bombay. He was raised in “Dongri”, a major Bombay slum. Ibrahim’s father was a police officer. Even from a very young age, he was engaged in stealing, robberies, and fraudulent activities.

The incident that made him a notable name occurred when he was just 19 years old, in 1974. Dawood had grown close to Haji Mastan (Bombay’s most significant don at the time) by jumping a delivery and pocketing $200,000. A top Bombay law enforcement officer saw a chance and encouraged Dawood to go after Mastan. The purpose was to bring Mastan’s rule to a close. Dawood, who did not want to be second fiddle to Mastan, waged a violent fight against Mastan and his supporters.

Dawood assassinated 3 killers involved in his brother’s murder. While the Bombay police had pitted Dawood against Mastan, the bloodshed had escalated beyond control. As a result, Dawood was charged with murders in 1984. He later fled to Dubai, wherein he stayed in a villa known as the ‘White House.’ Dawood welcomed Criminal leaders and Bollywood celebrities in his opulent mansion and entrusted his ‘D Company’ to his deputy Chhota Rajan.

Black marketing got obsolete when India expanded its trade to global countries. Japanese televisions and Chinese radios, for example, are now permissible to purchase. At the Mumbai ports, the fleet carrying Dawood’s shipments steadily declined. The same year, cops and affiliates of D Company clashed in a brutal gun battle.

Mumbai Blasts

1993 was the year when Dawood Ibrahim made the news again.

Thirteen bombs exploded in Mumbai a year after a Hindu crowd torn down the Babri masjid. Around 250 individuals were murdered in the bomb attacks.

As a result, the FBI and Interpol listed Dawood on their most-wanted lists, forcing him to depart Dubai to avoid being arrested. He is said to have flown to Karachi, Pakistan’s largest metropolis. In return for sheltering him, Dawood bailed out its Central Bank with a cash loan. He also supplied weapons to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a terrorist organization fighting India.

Dawood Ibrahim was declared a worldwide terrorist by the Indian Government and the USA in 2003, with a $25 million bounty on his head for his suspected participation in the 1993 Bombay bombings. He is also charged with blackmail, fraud, homicide, and trafficking on other counts.
