Sometimes, a beloved film fades from your memory as time goes on. Here are 15 movies from the 1980s that people loved back in the day but many have forgotten about.

1. The Money Pit (1986)

The Money Pit is one of those films that takes a somewhat normal situation and spirals it out of control. If you enjoy watching people in ridiculous predicaments, you will love this one. Plus, Tom Hanks!

2. Animal House (1978)

Okay fine, you've caught us. Animal House is actually from the late 70s, which is possibly why you forgot about it. However, it shaped films in the 80s… and who doesn't love a young Kevin Bacon?

3. Amazon Women on the Moon (1987)

Amazon Women on the Moon is a satirical science fiction movie parodying the experience of watching low-budget films on late-night TV. It features twenty-one unrelated comedy sketches, includes cameos, and stars an ensemble cast of Michelle Pfeiffer, Griffin Dunne, Carrie Fisher, Ed Begley Jr., Joe Pantoliano, David Alan Grier, and Arsenio Hall.

4. The Gate (1987)

The Gate is a supernatural horror film following two young boys (Louis Tripp and Stephen Dorff) who inadvertently release a legion of demons from their backyard through a large hole in the ground left by a tree removal service.

5. Electric Dreams (1984)

Electric Dreams is a sci-fi romantic comedy following the story of an artificially intelligent computer that begins expressing thoughts and emotions. It finds itself in a love triangle with its owner, Miles (Lenny Von Dohlen), and the neighbor cellist named Madeline (Virginia Madsen). Bud Cort lends his voice to the PC.

6. Night of the Comet (1984)

Night of the Comet is a sci-fi comedy horror film following two teen sisters (Catherine Mary Stewart and Kelli Maroney) who are the only survivors of a comet that has turned the population into zombies or dust. Eventually, they partner with another survivor, Hector (Robert Beltran), and work together to stay alive. However, in addition to zombies, they are pursued by scientists hoping for an antidote. 

7. Seems Like Old Times (1980)

Seems Like Old Times is a comedy film following a writer (Chevy Chase) who moves to a cabin in the California mountains to finish a novel. After a pair of criminals kidnap him and force him to rob a bank, he goes to his ex-wife (Goldie Hawn) for help. Despite being married, she harbors him in her home while her husband hosts a party for law enforcement officers. 

8. Summer School (1987)

Summer School is a comedy following a high school gym teacher (Mark Harmon) eager to vacation in Hawaii. However, at risk of losing his tenure, he is forced to teach a remedial English class during the summer. It co-stars Kirstie Alley and Courtney Thorne-Smith.

9. The Chocolate War (1988)

The Chocolate War is a drama based on Robert Cormier's novel of the same name. A young man and new student (Ilan Mitchell-Smith) rebels against the ingrained hierarchy of an elite Catholic school. It stars John Glover, Wallace Langham, and Doug Hutchison.

10. The Legend of Billie Jean (1985)

The Legend of Billie Jean is a drama following restless teenage siblings Billie Jean Davy (Helen Slater) and Binx (Christian Slater). After a bully trashes Binx's scooter, Billie Jean asks the bully's father for the repair money. However, he attempts to make horrible advances on her and she unintentionally shoots him. Binx and Billie Jean go on the run while becoming folk heroes. 

11. House of Games (1987)

House of Games is a neo-noir heist thriller following psychiatrist Margaret Ford (Lindsay Crouse). After a patient attempts to take his own life, Margaret confronts his bookie, Mike (Joe Mantegna). Once she determines he's not a threat, she becomes engulfed in an underground world and high-stakes gambling. However, when Mike turns out to be a con man, she finds herself in danger. 

12. The Great Outdoors (1988)

The Great Outdoors is a slapstick comedy following two families vacationing at a lake resort in the fictional town of Pechoggin, Wisconsin. The families find themselves at odds with each other, and hilarity ensues. It stars Dan Aykroyd, John Candy, Stephanie Faracy, Annette Bening, Chris Young, Lucy Deakins, and Robert Prosky.

13. SpaceCamp (1986)

This fun family movie from the 80s is about a group of campers at space camp who accidentally find themselves in space after their shuttle launches into orbit. Now the group of teenagers have to find their way back home to the only planet they've ever known.

14. Little Darlings (1980)

When Ferris and Angel meet at summer camp, the two 15-year-old girls hate each other from the start. The very opposite girls have one thing in common though: they want to experience a romantic milestone by the end of camp, thus creating a competition between the two girls to see who will cross that threshold first.

15. Night Shift (1982)

In Night Shift, a timid morgue worker gets assigned to work the late shift, but his new coworker convinces him to run a new business out of the morgue at night. Where the dead sleep, so do a lot of customers — with ladies of the night.
