Introduction:

On Thursday, the state-run power company Ntpc announced that its subsidiary, NTPC Renewable Energy (NTPCREL), secured a 500 MW renewable energy round-the-clock (RE-RTC) project.

REMCL, which is a joint venture between the Ministry of Railways and solemnities Ltd, granted the project.

NTPC REL, a wholly-owned NGEL subsidiary and NTPC Limited attachment, received a Letter of Acceptance for the 500 MW RE-RTC project from REMCL.

The competitive bidding won most of the 900 MWRE-RTC. PPA with REMCL for 25 times. Solar and wind combo adds 1.8 GW to NTPC RE. Unique for high vacuity and dispatchability.

NTPC to win and supply RE-RTC power

The design assumes significance as Indian Railroads plans to use this green energy for their de- carbonization line. Also, it’s a first for NTPC to win and supply RE-RTC power. NTPC group formerly has functional capacity of 3.2 GW and with below RTC design, the total capacity under channel has exceeded 20 GW. To diversify its shaft portfolio, NTPC aims to enter hydrogen and energy storehouse results in a big way. To this effect, lately, work for Hydrogen Hub at Pudimadka in Andhra Pradesh is initiated.

NTPC targets 60 GW

NTPC has floated a tender for a storehouse of 9000 MWh. By 2032, NTPC aims to achieve a 60 GW installed capacity in renewable energy and establish itself as a significant player in green hydrogen technology and energy storage sectors.

Currently, NTPC Group operates 3.3 GW and is developing 20 GW, including 4 GW of energy storage and the first green hydrogen-based PNG blending design.
