The government will request BPCL’s detailed offer by October 1 for setting up a bioCNG factory in Kochi. The proposal comes after a major fire at the Brahmapuram waste operation in March highlighted design flaws. The aim is to produce bioCNG from the megacity’s biodegradable waste.

As per the current plan, the installation will be erected on a 10- acre space within the Brahmapuram jilting yard.

The BPCL has invited tenders for opting a design operation adviser . The deadline for submitting flings is July 28.

The adviser is likely to be named within a week after the deadline. The company wants the adviser to prepare a detailed design report within 45 days.

Once the detailed design report is ready, it has to get the nod from the BPCL board BPCL sanctioned told Onmanorama that the tender call has attracted a good response.

Those who have worked on analogous systems in Indore and Pune are among those who have expressed interest in the Kochi factory, the functionary said.

At least five interested players have visited the Brahmapuram yard as part of apre-bid assessment. The original offer submitted by BPCL to the government was to set up a factory that could reuse around 200 metric tonnes of biowaste a day.

The volume has now been revised to 150 tonne a day grounded on inputs from the pot.
