To launch 5G, Vodafone Idea Discusses with Vendors, but Finance Delay Remains a Barrier

Ravinder Takkar, the chairman of VI, commented on the country’s current telecom sector and stated that in order for business to prosper, telephone tariffs must considerably increase.

The Economic Times (ET) claimed that Vodafone Idea (VI) is in final negotiations with a number of network vendors to complete its 5G rollout plans. According to VI’s annual report for FY23, the telecoms company has finished device testing of all significant original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for its forthcoming mobile broadband network.

Ravinder Takkar, the chairman of Vodafone Idea, stated that the business is dedicated to expanding its 4G coverage and introducing 5G services in the nation.

In response to a question about Vodafone’s future plans, Takkar stated that the company would “remain focused on providing superior data and voice experience and building a differentiated digital experience through its several strategic initiatives,” in addition to continuing to invest in boosting 4G coverage and capacity, particularly in its 17 priority circles, and launching 5G services once funding is secured.

The company stated in its annual report filing that it is in touch with lenders and investors to raise money for operations expansion.

In the VI annual report, it was stated further that “Your company has made select 5G clusters in Delhi and Pune where it had partnered with various OEMs to test the compatibility of available 5G handsets.”

Significantly, compared to Vodafone Idea, the two telecom industry giants Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio are already moving towards 5G rollout.
