Junior doctors of Madhya Pradesh call of their protest after getting their demands met

Nearly 3,500 Junior Doctors in Madhya Pradesh had resigned from their posts after the high court directed them to resume duties within 24 hours and directed them to end their strike. The junior doctors had put forward multiple demands before the state government, including a hike in stipend and free treatment for them and their families if they contract the deadly coronavirus infection.

Resident doctors of the AIIMS and Safdarjung Hospital on Sunday held a candlelight march in support of the protesting doctors in Madhya Pradesh, who have been demanding a hike in stipends and beds for them and their families in case they contract COVID-19 .

The doctors from the two hospitals marched to Sri Aurobindo Marg and shouted slogans demanding justice for their fraternity members in Madhya Pradesh.

However, according to latest reports, the protest in Madhya Pradesh has been called off on Monday, 7 June 2021 after almost a week.

Madhya Pradesh’s junior doctors called off their strike on Monday after the state government agreed to increase their stipend by 17%. The deadlock was broken after 7 days following a series of meetings between the Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) and medical education minister Vishwas Sarang on Monday morning.

Junior doctor’s decision to strike during the coronavirus epidemic was declared illegal by the MP high court’s double bench comprising chief justice Mohammad Rafique and justice Sujoy Paul last Thursday. However, the striking doctors refused to follow the court’s order asking them to return to work within 24 hours. The court is now hearing a contempt plea against the doctors. The government has also withdrawn an earlier order to cancel their enrollment in the final year of MBBS and PG courses.
