Madrid trip!

I had never visited Madrid so I took the time to do a small trip there. The city itself left a good impression on me. It has a beautiful park, interesting center, nice geography and the biggest palace in Europe that spark interest.

Portuguese food is still the best but I did had the impression the quality of food was better in Madrid, even if the visit was very brief.

I arrived in the morning and planned a walking tour in the center from El Retiro Park to the Royal Palace. Also a few areas from Casa Del Papel came on the route like the Mint from the movie (the dot at the top).

What surprised me the most was the park that seemed very lively and had lots of markets and entertainment.

I also took the time to visit Plaza Mayor and de Mercado the San Miguel, which is a bit touristic but can’t be missed as its the oldest Market in Madrid.

Porto

My second trip went to Porto, which was a 12 days business trip. While the workdays were pretty long (up to 12 hours) I had the weekend free to enjoy some cycling and surfing.

I took another surf lesson, this was now my third and I feel confident enough now to do it without instructors next time. Unfortunatly we do not have good waves in Belgium so I will need to wait until I return.

During the cycling I was again reminded to the beautiful Ocean and cliffs Porto has. It does remains one of the most beautiful sights in Europe.

If you would only have 2-3 days in Porto I would recommend you to:

• Stay in Porto itself
• Take a (free) walking tour at the city
• Go on the bridge and visit both sides of the bridge for a drink or dinner
• Rent a bike near the bridge and cycle to the South Bank of the Ocean
• Take the subway to Matosinhos to the North bank to Surf

July in the stockmarket

My dividend Portfolio continues to outperform the total stockmarket and did slightly better then ETFs.

My Portfolio

My Portfolio has increased to 324742 EUR (+12568). I invested about 4000 EUR extra so most growth came from a rise in stock prices. July was really an exceptionally good month. Its hard to believe August will be just as good.

ETFs

The core of my long term strategy is ETF‘s. My ETFs have a YTD gain of 20808 EUR, proving once again that they are a VERY effective strategy!

Dividend-Value Portfolio

My dividend-value Portfolio WENT UP 3% and had another amazing month! I also got a nice 433 EUR in dividends.

Bank stocks did well. HSBC, Intel, Novartis, ATS had pretty good earnings.

Nobia had terrible earnings and sold off again.

Trades:

• Bought $VWCE, Novartis, $QFIN and $INTC

Growth Portfolio

If Im being honest I have often considered to sell $ANIC just so I dont need to keep looking at that red. But I will hold on for now.

Crypto

I am HODLing all coins I get from cash back for now and was able to already collect 11678 coins. Im still down 57%.

Real Estate

I currently owe one apartment that I purchased in 2010 for 136.000. I got it re-estimated in 2020 at it was valued at 185.000 EUR. I did a re-evaluation of my apartment that values it at 205000 EUR.

Startups

Got some positive news from TwinnTax this month! As its 25% of my startups I am quite happy about it.

Right now I have 1200 EUR still active in startups. I would like to sell this as quickly as possible.

I am using Spreds to purchase these startups.

I get an update just once a year, so I will update it also just once a year. This is from end of 2022. I will update it again in December 2023.

This was last updated on 31-12-2022.

I just update in December, as I don’t think its very spectacular to write about my savings here.
