January 2022 Portfolio update: worst January in decades!

The new year has begun, it has a color and the color is RED. The highlights of this month:

  • My Net Worth had one of the biggest drops since probably March 2020, and dropped with 15920 EUR
  • The first 3 weeks of January were extremely painful on the Stock market, so much that I rushed into a decision to sell off the $QQQ and switch to $VWCE instead to have more diversification. It seemed rational at the time but looking at it now it was a panic sale. Still I do like $VWCE so I will hold on to it

I still need to create a post where I set my goals. I plan to still create some goals for 2022, I already made some but its not complete yet.

I also took a 5 day trip to Istanbul this month, the total cost was about 600 EUR. Plane & hotel was the biggest chunk. Otherwise just visits to Palaces, a boat ride with Dinner and a Show and food of course.

The food is incredibly affordable there. For example a Turkish Tea on a restaurant is about 0.25 EUR. For a nice meal in the evening I paid about 6 EUR, including drinks & coffee after. If you never been to Istanbul before I can absolutly recommend it.

I stayed around Taksim square myself and would suggest you to stay in this area as well. Istanbul is really nice in the center, business center and touristic areas but there is also some areas you dont want to go. From Taskim square you could – if you are a good walker – walk anywhere you look. I took only 2 tram rides the entire time I was there and no taxi’s.

The stock market itself had the worst January in decades. My Portfolio went down along with it. I outperformed the $QQQ tracker but underperformed the $SP500. It does make me think about some of my choices, but for now I will ride out the volatility.

Lets find out how my portfolio did this month and what changes I made.

My Portfolio

My Portfolio has increased to 243988 EUR (-15854). I did continue to do my monthly investments, despite a very high volatility. I invested about 1000 EUR, so the market actually went down even more. We will see if the downtrend continues or if we see a reversal in February.

ETFs

The core of my long term strategy is ETF‘s.

I sold the $QQQ and went into $VWCE instead. I don’t know if it was the right decision but $VWCE is a very good ETF (global ETF containing 3500 companies) & less volatile so I will sleep better.

SPDR MSCI World UCITS ETF ($AMS:SWRD)
ISHSIII-CORE MSCI WORLD U.ETF ($EUNL)
ISHSV-MSCI ACWI ($IUSQ)
Vanguard FTSE All-World U.ETF ($VWCE)

Cultured meat / Agro-Tech Portfolio

I am pretty red in this portfolio, and sometimes I do wonder if I shouldn’t lower my positions, but then I look at every stock individually and re-confirm my tunnel vision that this stock will make me money in the long run. So for now I am just holding and even buying extra from time to time.

Crypto

$CRO.X continued to drop, altough I do have the impression that it is slowing down. I also have the Jade card here and that is the main reason why I am into CRO.

If you want to use my referral link to get a crypto.com visa card, you can use it here, then both of us will get 25$. I’ve been using mine since October 2021 and I am happy with the 3% cashback, free Netflix, Free Spotify & Free Airport Lounge access.

You need to stake an amount of $CRO.X to get a card, but you do not lose your money. You stake it for 6 months and then you can take it back out if you need it. Myself I have staked 3500 EUR for the Indigo card and the value of the coin doubled since then and of course I will get some additional money for staking (10% p.a. on the Indigo card).

There is no fees on the crypto.com credit card!

Real Estate

I currently owe one apartment that I purchased in 2010 for 136.000. I got it re-estimated in 2020 at it was valued at 185.000 EUR. I did a re-evaluation of my apartment that values it at 199245 EUR. It is both related to a general rise in apartment prices of 6-7% and the value of apartments in my region. This contributed over half to the increase of my Net Worth.

According to immoweb its valued more then what I have written now, but I only revalue it once a year and that’s in June.

Startups

One of my starts did a second investment round in Series A, namely Advelux Medical. The results of their first sales are promising and this round was already announced in 2019 so its going according to planning.

I wasn’t planning to put more money into Startups but at the same time if I do have a good startup it would be a shame that my shares would have gotten diluted away by not investing. So I invested an additional 500 EUR on top of the 100 EUR I had invested previously..

Right now I have 2700 EUR still active in startups.

I am using Spreds to purchase these startups.

Check out this post if you want to know how you can invest in startups.

Peer to Peer

A payout has been reported for the law suit against Kuetzal. This will only be a small share, I expect maybe 20%-25% but its a start! I expect to get this somewhere in February.

I am left with only 4 peer to peer investments left, 3 I have considered to be in default. I have not defaulted on Mintos yet as there is a payment plan to get back the money in the next 2-3 years

Nothing new on CrowdEstor. I am just waiting for what will happen with my last 100 EUR investment there. I have already defaulted this investment in my portfolio.

I am in several law suits. One with Grupeer where I am being represented by Ellex and part of the Grupeer Armada. Contact them on Telegram here

I am also in a law suit with Kuetzal, where I am represented by Magnusson. Look for the Telegram group “Kuetzaldiscussion” to find the armada there.

I expect to get some really good news in Q1 about Kuetzal.

Retirement funds

I get an update just once a year, so I will update it also just once a year. This is from end of 2021. I will update it again in December 2022.

Savings

This was last updated on 31-12-2021.

My savings went down with about 13k since end of April, which is fine, I want to lower this amount and have more invested. A conservative target for this amount would be about 50k or 2 years of expenses.

I just update this twice a year, namely in June and December, as I don’t think its very spectacular to write about my savings here.

Unless something big happens of course, such as a real estate purchase.

YouTube

I published several new YouTube videos this month:
