Polygon ID is a self-operating private identity solution backed by ZK (zero-knowledge) cryptography. It will host numerous features for users that they previously could not have accessed via DAOs.

The venture is putting user control over digital identity first, and it will enable them to reveal sensitive data by only proving a particular aspect of their identity. Since the system is based on zero-knowledge technology, it merges the Circom ZK toolkit and Iden3 protocol.

This way, it can build a robust ZK-based application that can operate on mobile devices. Besides this, Polygon ID facilitates identity-sharing activities like claims by generating zkSNARK Proof. It allows the transactions to interact privately via dApps, smart contracts, and Web3 services.

For example, it will help customers owning a claim regarding their DOB to prove that they are above a set age without revealing any other sensitive detail.

Even DAOs can issue ecosystem-ranging attestations regarding their contributors in a permissionless and private manner. As a result, DAOs can also verify the attestations without collecting any private details.

It is based on the reliability of the issuer and the ZK proof. The attestations play a crucial role during governance, assisting activities like targeted airdrops. With Web3 becoming a market norm, decentralized governance is becoming a necessity.

Thus, Polygon DAO is trying to avoid issues faced by simplistic token-based governance frameworks that only leverage actors’ investment size for merit. With that said, applying new technology can be tricky, seeing how ZK solutions have never been integrated into DAOs before.
