Tips for International Students Studying in the UK

If you are an international Student moving in the UK to study, then you are probably feeling nervous, excited and everything in between.

Not only you are getting ready to further your education, but you will be doing it in a completely new country that you will need to become much more familiar with, as there are lots of things to consider in preparation for arriving in the UK.

But don’t be panic, here are some of the top things which you need to consider prior to moving and for when you Arrive in the UK.

  1. Pack appropriate clothing

If you had not already head, the UK is very well known for being wet and also get quite cold at some of the times! And when university starts in the month of September, it will be the time of autumn, which then moves into the winter. So, it’s probably a good idea always to pack suitable winter clothing such as the hat, scarf, jumpers, and gloves with you.

The UK has great shops to buy some of the new items so if you don’t want to pack everything or don’t have bags in your room, then you can purchase clothes while you are there with the help of a student travel card as well.

  1. Check for any baggage restrictions

At the time of packing your bags, you should always bear in mind the number of bags which you are permitted to check in and the weight allowance of your baggage at the time of traveling in the UK. The last thing you want is to be stung with an additional baggage charge when you arrive at the airport.

  1. Set up a UK bank account

If you are already staying in the UK for some of a few months already, then you should consider setting up your Bank Account. With the help of bank account, it will make it easier for you to pay any of the bills, online money transfer services, help you to keep your money safe and will also void having to pay any of the additional foreign currency charges.

  1. Register with a local doctor

When you arrive in the UK, then firstly you should make sure to register with a doctor at a surgery or health center in the local areas as soon as possible. The local doctor is also known as the ‘General Practicioner’, will be your first point of contact if you are ill and require any of the medical treatment.

  1. British Etiquette

Make sure to know some of the British etiquettes, as it will help you at the time of studying in the UK. Some of them are table manners, respect authority figures, apologizing, queuing, etc.
