Why is Oppo a Favourite Among India’s Youngsters?

Oppo mobiles are a favorite among Indian youngsters because the brand has accurately understood the factors that drive this market. A study by CyberMedia Research last year underscored the brand’s premier position among Indian buyers under 25 years of age.

The study found that Oppo emerged as the “most preferred innovative handset brand in the premium segment”. Since Oppo does not retail many models that are in the premium price bracket, it is evident that the respondents felt like the smartphones delivered a premium experience at entry-level and mid-range prices.

The study further cited data from its findings that pointed to young Indians being particularly impressed by Oppo’s high-resolution cameras and the long-lasting batteries that come with Oppo mobiles.

While the “boycott Chinese brands” campaign might have resulted in a temporary blip in the love that young India has for Oppo and its counterparts, the noise seems to have faded away and with it, the resolve to stay away from these extremely value-for-money smartphones. Oppo holds a 10% share of the Indian smartphones market, comparable with its share of the pie last year, according to data released last month by CounterPoint research. In absolute numbers, its shipments to India grew 83% according to the same study.

Here are some of the factors that seem to contribute to Oppo’s immense popularity in India, starting with the two cited in the CyberMedia research and Excellent cameras.

Most of the Oppo models, even those with prices hovering around Rs. 15,000 come with quad rear cameras. The Oppo F 17, for example, is priced between Rs. 16,000 to Rs. 17,000, and it comes with a quad rear camera set-up featuring a 16MP main camera, an 8MP wide-angle camera, and two 2MP mono cameras.

It also has a 16MP selfie shooter. The budget-friendly A53 is priced under Rs. 13,000 and comes with a triple rear camera set-up, featuring a 13MP main camera, and it also has a 16MP front camera. The Oppo F17 Pro, priced at around Rs. 23,000 to Rs. 24,000 comes with a quad-rear camera set-up featuring a 48MP lens along with a dual-selfie camera featuring one 16MP lens.

Long-lasting batteries

All the Oppo mobiles that we looked at above come with big batteries. The F17 pro with a 4000 mAh battery; the F17 with a 4015 mAh battery and even the budget A53 comes with a 5000 mAh battery. All come with at least a fast charge, if not a flash charge, and chargers to match.

Overall excellent features

Even at the amazing prices that we cited earlier, and already appealing with stellar cameras and long-lasting batteries, Oppo mobiles pack in additional selling points like sizable RAM — 6GB RAM in the F17, 8GB RAM in the F17 Pro, and 4GB in the A53.

Sizeable RAM is essential to ensure a smoothly functioning device and to keep annoying “not enough memory” messages at bay, especially when it comes to running simple tasks on the phone.
After-sales-service

Oppo emerged as the number one brand with regards to customer satisfaction among smartphone users, specifically with regards to after-sales-service according to another study by Counterpoint Research. An astounding 93% of respondents referred to the brand’s after-sales-service as excellent or very good.

Oppo was named the fastest provider of after-sales-service; 73 respondents said that they received their phones back the very same day upon turning them in for servicing. Additionally, Oppo mobile users had the lowest reported incidents of having to visit a service center twice for the same problem in their smartphone.
