Mandatory to link Aadhaar with Pan Card

There is a flurry of activity these days as people are Linking their Aadhaar with their Pan Card. This is being done because the government has made it mandatory to link both the cards. This step has been taken due to certain changes in the income tax rules, where the government has made the quoting of the 12-digit biometric Aadhaar Card a must at the time of the application of Permanent Account Number (PAN).

Almost 2.7 crore taxpayers have already linked their Aadhaar with PAN. As of now, there are 25 crore people with PAN, while Aadhaar has been issued to 111 crore people.

The reasons why the linking has been made compulsory is to check the tax evasion through the use of multiple PAN cards.

How to link Aadhaar with PAN?

  • Go to the website and click on the link ‘Link Aadhaar’ on the left-hand side of the website.
  • Fill your PAN and Aadhaar numbers
  • You then enter your name exactly as you have mentioned in Aadhaar and then submit it.
  • After the verification has been done by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the linking will be confirmed.

What happens if you do not link your Aadhaar Card with your PAN?

In case an individual fails to link Aadhaar and PAN by July 1, that person’s PAN would become invalid. If the PAN will become invalid it will lead to problems in banking and financial transactions where PAN is required to be quoted.

Remember This!

No matter what when you are linking your Aadhaar with PAN you should be extremely careful that there is no mismatch of basic details such as name, date of birth, father’s name and address proof. Basically, these documents are common to both Aadhaar and PAN cards and any mismatch in any one of the above details; there will be issues while linking the two or there will be no linking at all.
