Gigi Hadid’s Fashion Controversy With A New Hijab Style On ‘Vogue Arabia’

Thanks to the gorgeous Saudi Arabian Princess, Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz we have now known for a while about the launch of Vogue Arabia. But it was Gigi Hadid who really brought the news out to the world and to her 30-plus million followers on Instagram. Whatever someone may do there are always a handful of people who will have a problem with things, something similar has happened with this supermodel and we are sure this is not what she had thought would happen when she shot for Vogue Arabia’s first-ever magazine cover. The first issue, which came out yesterday on 5th March, is to be the first for a new type of audience: those in the Middle East with a taste for fashion and luxurious living. The cover has the supermodel’s face covered in a sequinned cloth revealing nothing but on half of her face. Vogue Arabia is set to establish some new trends and styles and they have started with Gigi Hadid in a bejeweled, sheer and nude hijab, which, unlike most hijab style looks, is not dark and opaque.

Gigi Hadid, whose father has Palestinian roots shared an Instagram picture of the cover in her version of a new hijab style and wrote, “I think the beautiful thing about there being international Vogue’s is that, as a fashion community, we are able to celebrate, and share with the world, different cultures.” Read the rest below:

While we may love how she looks on the magazine cover check out some of the responses of people who decided to question Hadid’s take on the issue:

Instagram user, wrote,”..so when your Palestinian people are being bombed, raped and tortured every single day you don’t utter a word about being half Palestinian but when you cover vogue Arabia you conveniently mention it?”

“Instead of a model wearing a fake hijab, you should have shown respect to the culture by showing a true iconic Arab fashionista,” tweeted A Fashionistas Diary.

“Gigi Hadid only claims her ethnicity when it’s time to post something controversial on instagram or to pose for Vogue Arabia,” writes a third Twitter critic.

“Vogue Arabia just gonna be another Vogue. Not a win in the fight for diversity & representation we hoped. Princess Editor got it wrong,” tweeted one user.

The same user previously commented that Vogue Arabia, in targeting the Middle East, should be more in line with that society, instead of bringing in celebrities from western societies.
