Doctor Who FINALLY has a female Doctor; say hello to Broadchurch's Jodie Whittaker.

Whovians, occasional Doctor Who fans, and fans of science fiction TV rejoice! A new Doctor Who has been revealed, and it's Broadchurch's Jodie Whittaker! She'll be taking over the reigns from Peter Capaldi, whose last appearance as the Doctor will be in the Christmas special.

The star of St Trinians and Adult Life Skills will be starting the new series with Chris Chibnail now in the show runner's position. Chibnail has written for Torchwood and Doctor Who, he's taking over departing Steve Moffat's seat.
The announcement was made in a trailer after the men's final at Wimbledon. Here's the trailer!

For years there was a contigent of Doctor Who fans (Whovians) who not so secretly wished that Helen Mirren would be one of the Doctors...you see, Whovians are very cool people who understand that the Doctor can become something completely different when they go through regeneration.
In a press release, Whittaker stated, "I’m beyond excited to begin this epic journey – with Chris and with every Whovian on this planet. It’s more than an honour to play the Doctor. It means remembering everyone I used to be, while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: hope. I can’t wait.”
Chibnail stated in the same release, "I always knew I wanted the 13th Doctor to be a woman and we’re thrilled to have secured our number one choice. Her audition for the Doctor Simply Blew us all away.
