Women’s Classic Couture: The A-Line Dress

Here is one item that never goes out of style because it is so flattering on any body type. It’s the A-line Dress. The A-line dress has been on the fashion scene for years. It was originally created in 1955 by Christian Dior. The A-line dress was revolutionary for its time because women were used to wearing tighter dresses that accentuated the waist. This new dress was looser and more informal. The A-line dress started to take off because celebrities like Twiggy, Penelope Tree, Edie Sedgwick, Mary Quant, Jean Shrimpton, and Jackie O began wearing it.

The true A-line dress is narrower on the top and flares out gently at the bottom. It sort of looks like the letter A. With a good A-line dress, the fabric flows over flaws and imperfections. It will always make you look and feel great. The A-line dress is incredibly easy to wear too. This dress will become your go to dress. It’s a good idea to have a black A-line dress in the closet as a “just in case dress.” You can wear it for those unexpected dates or party invites when you just have five minutes to get ready.  It is perfect to wear in the summer with sandals or in the winter with boots. Some different ways to wear this style of dress is to wear a bright colored A-line with brightly colored tights, like women did in the ’60s. Another great look is to wear a white A-line dress with black opaque tights. Don’t forget to include some great accessories as well.

I hope you enjoyed this article. It will be the first of many on women’s classic couture.
