Modelling Success Stories: Gigi Hadid

If your son or daughter manages to break into child Modelling, hopefully they’ll never look back. They will get the chance to do a really fun job, earn some real cash and maybe even gain the experience they need to make it in modelling as an adult. The ultimate child modelling success story is Gigi Hadid who continues to break through the barriers in modelling.

Child modelling work

Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, and according to her profile for IMG Models, the New York-based agency that represents her, Gigi Hadid was discovered at the tender age of two by Paul Marciano, the founder of American kids clothing brand Guess.

Teen Vogue writes that Gigi was asked to model for Baby Guess and she kept modelling through her childhood and pre-teen years. After gaining valuable experience, Gigi gave up child modelling to focus on her schoolwork.

However the American beauty eventually moved to New York to study at The New School, a private research academy based in the Big Apple and to start her career as an adult model.

Break into modelling

Gigi was snapped up by IMG Models, who have since helped her become a global phenomenon. The Los Angeles native got her big break in adult modelling when she was photographed by Bruce Weber for the cover image for the celebrated Carine Roitfeld Fashion Book magazine.At the start of her adult modelling career Gigi Hadid was also featured in a campaign for iconic brand Tom Ford.

Her career soon shot into the stratosphere. During her first year of young adult modelling alone, Gigi Hadid modelled for major designers such as Craig McDean and Mario Sorenti. She also went back to working with Guess, through which she has worked on three campaigns with as an adult.

Global phenomenon

Perhaps the most iconic moment of Gigi’s early career came courtesy of fashion bible Vogue. She was featured in the relaunch of the Vogue website, with the shoot serving as an homage to current Vogue editor Anna Wintour’s first cover for the magazine.

This job gave Gigi a lot of press attention and she has since gone on to work with some of the most famous fashion names in the world, from photographer Steve Meisel to brands such as Versace and Balmain.

All of this attention has allowed Gigi Hadid to become a bona fide global pop culture phenomenon. Often described as the ‘Queen of social media’ Gigi has a staggering 12 million+ followers on Instagram, where she regularly posts her latest modelling and personal snaps. Gigi has also featured in major music videos such as Taylor Swift’s ‘Bad Blood’ and Zayn’s ‘Pillowtalk.’ Yet modelling isn’t Gigi’s only passion – she recently finished a year of undergraduate study in forensic psychology!
