Cindy Crawford turns 50 this year and is celebrating by Retiring from the Modelling industry – or so she says.

Announcement

We’ve been here before, and Cindy admits herself that she may well be tempted to return if the right opportunity should become available. She made the announcement on her Instagram account earlier this month:

“Every year, I tell my kids I’m retiring. It’s a running joke in our family. And yet every year, opportunities pop up that really excite me. While it’s true that I’m eager to shift my focus a bit to concentrate on my businesses, friends and family — I’m not making any final statements (not all headlines tell the whole story!). I have loved being part of the fashion industry for the past 30 years — and if that time has taught me anything, it’s this: never say never. Thanks for all the support, I’m so excited for what 2016 holds!”

In the spotlight

Cindy accepts that her retirement – however brief it may be – won’t take her out of the spotlight from the world’s media.

Speaking to United Airlines’ Rhapsody magazine, she said: “I’m sure I’ll have my picture taken for 10 more years, but not as a model anymore… And that’s OK. I’ve done it. I’ve worked with all these incredible photographers. What else do I need to do? I can’t keep reinventing myself. I shouldn’t have to keep proving myself. I don’t want to.”

Crawford has spent the past few months promoting her new book, Becoming, celebrating her time in the industry.

New generation

Cindy’s daughter, Kaia Jordan Gerber, is starting out on her own career as a model. The 14-year-old, who famously starred as the face of the Versace Kids at the age of 10, signed with IMG Models in 2014. She’s spent nearly a decade modelling already, and looks ready to step into her mother’s shoes. Kaia has over 350,000 followers on Instagram, which she – like many up and coming models – uses to promote her work and personal image. Cindy’s son Presley, 16, is also a professional model, and was compared to Justin Bieber in a recent shoot.
