The Oscars: Six fashion tricks for Men’s Fashion

The prospect of getting noticed at the Oscars is a lot easier for men than for women – just wear something interesting, flashy or unusual and you’re bound to stand out more than 95% of the other men who are in a black tuxedo with a short-back-and-sides haircut. For the Oscars, 2016 was definitely the year of subtle detail, and these five style flourishes made our evening.

Smart casual

Jared Leto’s flower neck corsage and red piping on his black suit looked smart, but teaming it with slippers made the look more casual. Mankles have appeared on the Red Carpet before, but this year Leto joined singer Pharrell Williams and fashion-forward teenager Abraham Attah, making the red carpet seem like a bedroom carpet with his snake motif Gucci slippers.

Coloured tux

If there’s one way to stand out, it’s by wearing a coloured suit. This year’s Oscars had a multi-coloured suit line-up including: White Dolce & Gabbana (as worn by Common), blue and black (Mark Ruffalo), monochrome (Ryan Gosling – note: white bow tie) and blue (American footballer Aaron Rodgers). LUXE Models enjoyed the move away from traditional black tie attire.

Bleach your hair

If you’re looking to get noticed particularly at the big events, reach for bleach. Just ask Zayn Malik or Lucky Blue Smith. Pharrell chose this year’s Oscars to don the bleach blond hair. The rest of his outfit was fairly run-of-the-mill, which is a change for the 42-year-old who’s well-known for his outlandish outfits and headwear.

Look shady

Wearing sunglasses indoors is one thing, but wearing them on the red carpet is a whole new concept altogether. If anyone can pull off the look, then it’s Tom Hardy. He’s really hit the big time in recent years and he looked every bit as big time as he posed with wife Charlotte Riley in his shades.

Choose a good plus one

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet

Nothing beats a power-couple on the red carpet, and who can beat Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet for ‘friendship goals’? Leo decided to share his red carpet entrance with Winslet as a not-so-subtle reminder of where his brand began.
