Five Massive Runway Trends For Spring/Summer 2017

As we wave goodbye to 2016, we say hello to 2017. You might want to take this time to sort out your wardrobe, so you can craft fabulous outfits throughout the coming year. Drawing on the latest Fashion Month showcases, LUXE Models reveals five massive runway trends for spring/summer 2017.

Down to earth

Throughout Fashion Month, we saw that brands are increasingly going down to earth. T-shirts and denim littered the catwalks, especially at Dior, showing that casual chic is all the rage. Even the evening wear was dressed down at shows like Prada. Meanwhile, if Christopher Kane’s decision to display glammed-crocs in London proves anything, it’s that the casual footwear revolution is going nowhere.

Little and large

Designers really seem to be playing with size right now, according to the Hollywood Reporter. At the spring/summer 2017 Hermes and Valentino displays, there were mini bags which were worn almost like jewellery. Meanwhile, the Celine and Balenciaga shows featured ridiculously large bags, with some even being big enough to sit on. Meanwhile, oversized clothes were also everywhere, from Jill Sanders’ baggy shorts suits to Balenciaga’s Working Girl blazers. Apparently size will matter in 2017.

Laidback loungewear

If we learned anything from Fashion Month, it’s that pyjama dressing is here to stay. In Milan, for example, embellished pyjamas were huge, with Prada’s chinoiserie printed/jewel-encrusted pyjama sets being a particular hit. Lingerie looks set to be hot in early 2017 as well. From Dior’s embroidered tulle dresses, to Chanel’s 90s era, pale pink lace-edged slips, lingerie was all over the runways.

Experimental cuts

Experimentation has always been big in fashion. But designers took it to new extremes during Fashion Month Spring/Summer 2017, experimenting with the compositions of their outfits. We saw sliced and diced statement shirts at shows ranging from Stella McCartney to Michael Kors, while Simone Roche decided to hang sleeves from the back of coats. Prepare to break all the rules next year!

Wider returns

Skinny trousers, especially jeans, have ruled the runways for years now. However, it looks as though wider trousers are due to return in spring/summer 2017. Wider waists were everywhere, from the balloon-inspired pieces at the Kenzo showcase, to Stella McCartney’s paper bag-waist. Meanwhile, wider legs are also in, with Gucci’s amazing flared-legged, denim suit setting the bar for 2017!

See you in 2017
