A look into Kate Moss’ ground-breaking modelling agency

During London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017, iconic model Kate Moss made a major announcement. Kate’s planning to open a ground-breaking modelling agency!

Kate Moss

There’s no model quite like Kate Moss – she’s a household name! Kate’s modelling success story dates back to 1988, when she was famously discovered by the founder of Storm Modelling agency, Sarah Doukas, at the tender age of 14. Kate’s waif-esque looks and unpretentious attitude struck a chime with early 90s audiences and she popularised the heroin-chic look, ushering in a new age.

During her career, Kate has worked for a number of top brands. This includes Versace, Rag & Bone, Burberry, Channel, Dior, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana and Rimmel among many others. She’s one of the most photographed women in the business, featuring in every fashion magazine from British Vogue, which she has fronted an astonishing 30 times, to Vanity Fair. Who better to guide young models?

New agency

Kate must have come to that conclusion herself. According to the BBC, the Londoner is now planning to open the Kate Moss Modelling Agency this month. Commenting in an interview, Kate revealed: “I don’t really want pretty people… I want to create stars… I want to focus more on managing people’s careers than just [running] a model agency… I want people that want to sing and dance and act.”

And Kate is already making progress. The agency’s website is already up, although it’s clearly still being developed at the moment. Kate has recruited Lucy Baxter, who worked at Storm, to jump ship to her agency and the iconic model has opened a new Instagram account for it. The account already has over 500,000 followers, so there’s obviously a lot of interest in the Kate Moss Modelling Agency!

Fantastic mentor

Talking about the agency, Business of Fashion’s website editor, Imran Ahmed, who carried out the interview with Kate, said of the move: “It’s a really exciting time to launch an agency. The modelling world has traditionally been run by long time agencies and there have been some other boutique agencies in recent years that can offer a more bespoke service to young people.”

Imran added that Kate’s high profile, contacts and experience will make her the perfect mentor for aspiring models. He also noted that models are now being hired based on social media profile follower counts, so they can publicise campaigns.

“Modelling is so much about social media, the constant demand for content. Models aren’t just walking the runways and appearing in campaigns. They are also managing a constant feed of content through social media and online.”

Getting started

Kate Moss’ agency could be the one for you, if you’re looking to become a model. Kate is looking for people who are special – who are more than just pretty faces. You never know, if you catch the attention of this agency, you could use Kate’s public profile and experience to help launch your career!
