Modelling Success Stories: Lucky Blue Smith

Break into male modelling and a whole new world will open up before your eyes. You’ll get to work with cool people, see the world and possibly even become a star like Lucky Blue Smith. The industry’s latest ‘it boy,’ as far as male modelling success stories go, it doesn’t get better than Lucky.

Lucky’s beginnings

Raised in small town Utah, Lucky Blue Smith grew up to become a six-foot-two-inch Adonis. According to Business of Fashion, Lucky’s older sister Daisy Clementine was scouted before him, when he was just ten years old, by Next Models Los Angeles. They told him to come back in two years.

Lucky returned when he was 12 and his whole family was signed by Next Models Los Angeles on the spot. The family did their first shoot with photographer Heidi Slimane for Vogue Homme Japan and Lucky’s meteoric rise began.

After following his agent’s advice and dying his locks platinum, Lucky started attracting attention from major designers, becoming a model and shooting his career into the stratosphere.

Social media model

But Lucky Blue Smith isn’t just a male model, he’s a bona fide celebrity. How did that happen? Well like Cara Delevingne and the Jenner sisters, Lucky has used Social Media, especially Instagram, to raise his profile as a model. Lucky originally joined Instagram to keep up with family and friends back home as he was modelling, but he amassed over 150,000 followers by January 2015.

Lucky Blue Smith’s star status was cemented at the January 2015 Milan mens wear Fashion Week. Before the Fendi show, Lucky posted a message inviting fans to meet him outside the venue and 60 girls turned up demanding selfies.

After pulling the stunt three more times and doing more of these ‘Insta-meets’ with fans, it became clear that Lucky Blue Smith is a force to be reckoned with online.

Like many modern models, Lucky wields social media like a pro. Not only does he do Insta-meets, but he offers fans a fly-on-the-wall view of modelling, raising his star status both online and offline ever-further.

Models.com writes that he has now become the second most popular male model on social media of all time, with a staggering 2.5m followers on Instagram alone.

Iconic male model

By harnessing the power of social media, Lucky has already become an iconic male model, even though he’s still just a teenager. Industry insiders argue that Lucky’s popularity on social media is actually the reason why so many brands and designers decide to work with him. Lucky has done runway shows for a wide range of designers, from Michael Kors and Versace, to Fendi.

Yet when it comes to modelling, the Utah-native is perhaps best known for serving as the incredibly handsome face of Tom Ford, Moncler, and Calvin Klein Jeans. Lucky has also appeared on the cover of many fashion magazines, such as Harper’s Bazaar. Speaking of magazines, iconic fashion bible Teen Vogue named Lucky its ‘male model of the moment’ in 2015.

Show your face

Lucky Blue Smith shows that these days, social media is an aspiring male models best friend. If you follow his example and get your face out there on sites like Instagram and Pinterest, you could start attracting fans and come to the attention of a top modelling agency. Should you happen to get signed, the only way is up, as you’ll have support you need to start working as a male model.
