#MetGala2016: Analyzing fashion mistakes.

Costume Institute Gala, one of the most important fashion events of the year, has took place on 2 May, with its theme being “Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology” this year. Despite the set theme to stick to, some of the guests preferred to stay dedicated to classic, while the others expressed their own themes through the outfits.

Nevertheless, aside from the good looks, the failures took place as well. While the Internet is already flooded with “Worst celebrity looks from Met Gala” lists, they are mostly based on an opinion of whether or not the outfit just looks good. However, Met Gala looks will influence our fashion choices for the next year, so instead of compiling another list of “ugly” looks, it’s better to look thoroughly them and not do the same mistakes yourself.

#1. Madonna

Madonna already clarified, that her Gala outfit advocates for women’s issues. However, from the fashion point of view, it’s clear quite a lot was revealed. Deep cleavage, shorts, heels and high boots don’t go well together, as well as a lot of strap-like accessories. Although it was probably implied, personally, it reminded me of sadomasochistic practices, which nobody wants to be reminded of in a neutral and friendly environment.

#2. Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga admitted, that her outfit took only 10 minutes to put together. Aside from the part that she forgot to put on her bottom part, the outfit looks like it belongs in the 1980’s, with padded shoulders, upside-down triangle silhouette, and wild hair combined together. This look is more suitable for a backup dancer on a concert stage. What can be learnt from Lady Gaga for sure, is to never combine extreme boots with net stockings.

#3. Irina Shayk

Irina fell to a classic mistake of showing both cleavage, especially such a deep one, and legs at the same time. Combined with bare shoulders, semi-transparent skirt, and frills, the dress looks like it’s barely present, and the skirt only adds up to its appear as of barely reaching top of the thighs. Mix this with elaborate print that resembles the American flag, and you will get a gaudy look that belongs more on the beach, worn with a swimsuit underneath.

#4. Emma Stone

Emma’s corset looks painful. Straightforward, but if the dress wouldn’t have a side cut in it and the arm detail wouldn’t meet with bare skin, the look could work out. The corset looks eerily close to being a metal one, and Emma’s straight posture doesn’t make this situation any better. Basically, the dress is gorgeous. Take out the corset that despite having unnecessary “metal” roses looks like a medical one, and you’ll pull off a timeless and perfect look.

#5. Selena Gomez

What was the theme of this outfit? The white polka dot dress would be enough itself, even if it was considered “too simple”. The leather bra is as much out of the place as the black leather high-heels, which only make Selena shrink, instead of the opposite, because of such little distance between the boots and the hem. The clutch adds up to the overload of details with its colour combination of black and orange. Truly, this outfit taught us not to put too much of unnecessary details in the outfit, and to concentrate on the idea and the look itself.

#4. Grimes

Grimes wore an oversized Louis Vuitton dress with heels and a cross body clutch bag. Whilst the dress suits this year’s theme well, it certainly doesn’t flatter Grimes’s height, almost coming down completely to the boots. Classically, the cross body bag adds up to the “shrinking” effect, like it wouldn’t do if worn just on the side.
