Adapting the best #MetGala looks into everyday wardrobe.

Aside from the worst dressed lists there are plenty already, a lot of looks made it to the “best dressed” ones. Since Met Gala, aside of the fashion weeks, is one of the most anticipated fashion events each year, it has a great impact on our everyday style. This year’s Met Gala theme was “Fashion in an Age of Technology”. Following that, we have a good chance to get inspired and transfer the ball gowns to casual looks.

#1. Claire Danes and Zac Posen

Claire Danes’s glowing gown was compared to Disney’s Cinderella dress, mostly because of its similar colour and skirt shape. However, the greatest thing about Claire’s dress was her ability fit perfectly into the theme, while remaining elegant.

This look is all about softness, mixed with soft shine, so get aggressive sequin out of the way and stick to the clothes that are entwined with silver threads. This is an outfit for a real princess, so wear it with a belt decorated with something like a butterfly or a bow, and finish off with silver “glass slippers”. To recreate Claire Danes’s dress glow in the darkness, have long chain necklace on.

#2. Beyonce and Givenchy Haute Couture

Beyonce’s look was outraged upon by some, but it’s hard to deny she looked quite stylish even in latex.

Forget loose shapes for this one: Beyonce’s skin-tight look is about curves in all their best. Pick out nude pieces with beads or floral patterns, made out of latex, (faux) leather, or polyester. Leave other major outfit details to be another colour, but have a couple of amber and white-stone rings on, and if you weren’t able to find anything with beads on, wear your own: white, golden, or light-pink bead necklace.

#3. Zoey Deutch and Dolce and Gabbana

Zoey Deutch had a total look from Dolce and Gabbana for this year’s Met Gala. Although florals for spring are “groundbreaking”, their presence reoccurs each year, so it’s important to refresh them as it happens. Zoey Deutch managed to do it, adding elaborate golden jewelry to what the fashion world sees annually, and not putting any emphasis on the flowers by having a nude bodice underneath, leaving the dress transparent.

To recreate this look, have your garments nude, but with bright and vivid flowers on it. A lot of gold is necessary, so have your shoes and floral headband decorated with golden details. One of the D&G’s signature detail is bright, shiny, big red heart, so put one on your neck. If textile flowers are not enough for you, have them as a broche, and don’t forget to have them on the earrings and hands as well. It’s up to you to wear this outfit on a formal or casual occasion, it depends on style and type of clothing you choose.

#4. Margot Robbie and Calvin Klein with Tiffany & Co.

Nothing to say about this flawless and classical look. The dress really flatters Margot’s posture and figure, and Tiffany & Co.’s golden bracelets are just enough amount of gold one should put on to accessorize smart. Complementary to white, black purse adds another eye-catching detail to this metallic look that fits in with the technology in future of fashion perfectly.

Really, it’s about good fitting and geometry, so have your look white and with triangular cuts in it, or just in sharp defined lines, if cutting is extreme for you. Have your accessories minimalistic and classic, like simple golden wide bracelets, bead earrings, and small black clutch. In order not to let your makeup take over your look, keep it classy with a simple pink lipstick. For your look to canonically match, have your shoes in the same gold as you have your accessories.

#5. Lilly Collins and Valentino with Tiffany & Co.

Despite bright red dress and deep, although partly covered cleavage, Lilly Collins kept her Met Gala look simple, by keeping the accompanying jewelry simple and minimal.

Keep it as simple as possible, but allow a small plisse. Don’t go for intense red colour, and accessories with middle-sized and thin chains. Keep the shapes not too loose and not too tight, and don’t forget to add a bit of gold to the details.

#6. Lupita Nyongo in Calvin Clein with Tiffany & Co. and Jimmy Choo

Regardless of future technology theme, Lupita Nyongo had an elaborate 20’s-inspired dress for this year’s Met Gala, accompanied with timeless diamond jewelry. As well as Claire Danes was compared to Cinderella, Lupita Nyongo is compared to Princess and the Frog’s Tiana not for the first time for a Met Gala outfit.

This is not something you can easily wear every day. Even the basic top and short or skirts in mint colour with a little bit of sparkle would look more suitable for a ball than on the street. It won’t be easy to find mint-coloured gleamy clothes, but once you do, be sure you will feel like a real princess wearing them. The accessories are not subtle there, and they rather go hand in hand with the look, so it’s better to keep them medium-sized for better pairing.

#7. Alexa Chung and Thakoon

This year, Alexa Chung’s Met Gala outfitted was talked about a lot. Perhaps because of the fact that aside from Anita Ko earrings, she didn’t have any accessories, since the shiny trousers suit was still smart and speaking by itself, and trousers on a woman is certainly not something you see often on a ball.

Of course, it’s all about thin vertical stripes and black, or dark blue background. It could be hard to find a similar suit or semi-matching top and bottom with the stripes embodied with sequin, so if you don’t, compensate the shine of the look with a long thin necklace. Add a tassel belt to make the outfit slightly messy for good, and don’t forget small bolt earrings to look more dynamic.

#8. Jourdan Dunn, Doutzen Kroes, Alessandra Ambrosio in Balmain

Balmain seems to dominate the 2016 Met Gala, and it’s no wonder: the brand’s dresses have definite shapes and metallic gleam. Aside from the Kardashians, top-models were exploiting these features successfully as well.

These outfits feature metallic gleam, combined with straight geometric shapes. Of course, this requires simplicity, but you still can accessorize as long as the accessories go together, or are more humble than the outfit.

#9. Poppy Delevingne and Marchesa

Not the best look that fits in with the theme, but still very elegant, yet eye-catching, and the pattern of the dress creates a flattering hourglass figure shape.

To recreate this look, simply pick up items that resemble the 20’s style, which is having a fringe and sequin, and being silver or gold. However, avoid “native-like” clothes with the fringe, or the outfit would be out of place, but elaborate with the accessories as much as you want. This look can hardly be worn outside a party because of its shine, so it’s better to wear it with the heels.

#10. Kate Upton and Topshop with Jimmy Choo

Despite not being dressed in the high-end, Kate Upton’s look is still original, with the silver dress accompanied by golden Jimmy Choo purse.

To have this look, look out for fitted, but not loose clothes, decorated with silver glitter and sequin. Keep your silver accessories to a minimum, but make sure your bag and shoes are matching gold for a contrast.
