The week long celebration of a decade of couture came to a close on a high note. India Couture Week 2017’s Grand Finale was a glamourous event with Bollywood stars Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh walking the runway for Manish Malhotra who presented his latest collection called Sensual Affair.

It was a treat to watch the master couturier bring his best to the runway with all the sparkle and allure that his collection usually has. Apart from the usual bridal affair of lehengas and blouses the designer presented a plethora of evening wear gowns in velvet, tulle, lace.

The giant rosettes were a special attraction for me and the sheer volume of the lehengas/gowns spoke of the opulence Manish’s label is known for. There is a lot of embroidery and zari work on the ensembles. The use of crystals and the immense size of the florals would definitely set a trend in Indian couture this season.

Alia looked like a petite princess in a monochrome gown with a trail with floral gauzy rosettes all over the gown and a glittering, body-hugging, semi transparent bodice, completing the look with a gauzy veil hanging over the back of her head.

Ranveer was his usual charming self on the runway, walking down with panache in a blue velvet sherwani with embroidery all over, loose hair and the usual naughty grin he carries around everywhere. Instantly a hit with the audience!

Malhotra’s collection brought together a fusion of western and traditional Indian silhouettes. A lot of the dresses had voluminous trails on them bringing a certain elegant princess look to the ensembles. The deeps blues and reds were beautifully used along with monochromes setting off the dreamy mood of the theme.
