India Couture Week 2017: Anju Modi’s couture inspired from the artistry of Kishangarh

Designer Anju Modi brought in the royalty inspired from the Kishangarh school of art to the runway for the tenth anniversary celebration of couture in India at the India Couture Week 2017.

Called Sunehri Kothi, Modi’s collection was a presentation of classical royalty and Rajputana inspired ensembles. For her inspiration the princess of Kishangarh, Vaishnavi Kumari, introduced her to Kishangarh School of art and it is inspired from the miniature paintings of the 16th century.

With excellent craftsmanship bought to the fore, the collection had an extensive colour palette including jewel tones of purple, bright yellow, emerald, maroons and reds; and muted tones of ivory, gold, lotus pink, powder blue etc. Modi stuck to the classic bridal silhouettes with heavy mid riffed lehengas, sleeved blouses, jackets, voluminous kurtas for men and gauzy odhni for the women. The men donned Pagris bringing the royal ancient look of the rajputs to the limelight yet again.

“Traveling through the land of the kings, Rajasthan, I found myself on a road less taken to a humble yet resolute mansion, The Sunehri Kothi. Weathered and rugged exteriors did little to give away the grandeur of what was once a ‘Golden Chalet’. In this collection I bring alive its gold emblazoned interiors and intricate architectural detail, allowing a peak   into the Sunehri Kothi that also emerged in the miniature art forms of that region,” said Anju Modi through a press release.

Actor Dia Mirza was the showstopper for the show looking like a queen herself in an embroidered, deep necked, full sleeve blouse, a self patterned mid riffed lehenga and a sheer white dupatta. Her make up was as traditional as it gets with kohled eyes, deep red lips and a small bindi adorning her forehead.

The showcase was in collaboration with Vishal Jewels who created a special collection with uncut and rose cut diamonds, emeralds and other precious stones.
