7 Tips for Refreshing Your T-shirt Collection

The T-shirt is a staple in a man’s wardrobe, with many owning at least a dozen that they wear all the time. However, this collection gets stale after a while, and finding a way to make it feel new and fresh can be tricky for some. Don’t fret — here are a few tips to make it much easier.

Throw out the old

The first thing you need to do is to throw out all of your old or worn-out T-shirts. Whether they have sweat stains, are stretched out, or are a bit too small: you do yourself a disservice by wearing a shirt that is below par.

Instead, throw out shirts that look shabby or you haven’t worn in a while. Once you have done that, hit up a mens designer t shirt sale and find some brand-new ones. Don’t focus on quantity, but rather on quality.

Try some new colors

No matter the clothing or person, we all get stuck in the habit of sticking to the same colors when buying clothing. While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, you could be missing out on a color or shade that really suits you.

Considering the fact that you can find a T-shirt in almost any color, explore your options. If you don’t know where to start, dark greens, blues, and browns are always good options.

Have a collection of neutrals

Another must is having a selection of T-shirts in neutral colors. T-shirts are brilliant for layering, but you can’t layer a blazer with a lime green T-shirt without looking slightly out of place.

Pick up a couple of white and black T-shirts, and consider a couple of beige and brown ones, too. These neutrals can be matched with almost any outfit and layered just as easily in summer and winter.

Minimize the prints

We’re not saying to avoid prints in total. However, there are two main problems associated with them. The first is that they can look very juvenile. While this depends on the print, it is the case nine times out of ten.

The second problem is that the print is going to start to peel and fade, sometimes long before the shirt gets too old to wear. If you want designs on your T-shirts, rather opt for something embroidered instead of a print.

Have multiple T-shirt fits

In this day and age, there is no need to stick with just a regular T-shirt fit. Multiple options are available — each with advantages depending on your body shape and size — and what you pair the T-shirt with.

Regular

A regular-fit T-shirt is exactly what it says on the can. They are the ones you will find almost anywhere, and they are ideal for those who aren’t too short or too tall, too skinny or too broad. They can be worn on their own or with a semi-formal look, layered with a blazer, and come in a wide range of colors.

Baggy

Baggy T-shirts add a touch of ‘90s edge to your outfits. A baggy T-shirt is anything that is a few sizes bigger than your regular size, with many people opting for something as big as 4XL or 5XL.

Long-line

A long-line T-shirt fits like a regular one around the torso and over the shoulders but is much longer in the torso than a regular-fit T-shirt. Long-line shirts are great for a skater-inspired look and can also elongate your torso if that concerns you.

Oversized

An oversized T-shirt falls in between baggy and long-line. The most accurate description would be that they are fitted baggy T-shirts. They are great for Summer and the warmer months as they keep you cool, but they are also suitable for most body shapes and sizes too.

Have multiple T-shirt styles

Once you have a selection of fits, the next thing to do is to vary the style of T-shirts you have. There are over twenty styles of T-shirts to choose from, ranging from the crew and v-neck to the baseball and capped-sleeve T-shirts.

While not every style is going to suit your taste, the goal is to add variety to your wardrobe. For example, a black v-neck T-shirt creates a completely different look and feel compared to a black turtle-neck T-shirt.

Color-match to the season

Finally, create a small seasonal capsule wardrobe. In the summer, have a few light T-shirts; in spring, add a few shades of green — do you see where we’re going with this? Capsule wardrobes created around seasons have two main benefits.

The first is that you can create multiple outfits around two or three shirts, with the next benefit being you can save money.

Wrap up

Refreshing your T-shirt collection doesn’t have to be a struggle at all, and if you know where to start, it can be stress-free and quite affordable, too. If you follow the tips above, you will have no problems creating the most stylish T-shirt collection.
