In my youth I read Shogun, which sparked an early fascination with the Japanese culture. Later I discovered the mini-series, which was amazingly true to the books. Kiri-san was played by Miiko Taka, who may not have been in many productions, but she still had a large impact on early me. As a Japanese American living through WWII, she & her family suffered through the indignity of a relocation camp for the duration of the war. Far too many have gone through the fear & uncertainty associated with forced relocation.
