Lollapalooza Festival 2014: Rihanna Crashes Eminem’s Set, Iggy Azalea Wows Audience & Lorde Gets Stage Fright

Check out all the highlights from this year’s festival

This year’s Lollapalooza festival was certainly a mixed bag of surprises with Rihanna joining Eminem on stage for an epic performance and Lorde, who usually finds it hard to bite her tongue, becoming overwhelmed and losing her words during her day one set.

Held at Grant Park, Chicago last weekend, the annual music bonanza saw the likes of Chance The Rapper, Kings Of Leon, Arctic Monkeys and Outkast grace the stages, performing to more than 40,000 people over the three days.

From surprise performances to stage fright, it all happened at this year’s Lollapalooza! Check out some of our biggest highlights below.

Rihanna Joins Eminem On Stage As Surprise Guest:

Giving the audience a teaser of their upcoming ‘Monster’ tour which kicks off this week, Em introduced RiRi to the stage as his surprise guest during his headline slot on Friday night.

The hitmaker pals duetted on ‘Love The Way You Lie’ and ‘The Monster,’ both of which have enjoyed chart-topping global success. Perhaps the highlight of their performance was RiRi bravely taking Dido’s place on Em’s 1999 classic hit ‘Stan.’

The ‘Diamonds’ songstress wasn’t the only surprise guest though as the Slim Shady also invited his Slaughterhouse pals Royce Da 5’9” to join him on stage. The crowd were treated to a slew of hits from Em’s back catalogue including ‘My Name Is’ and ‘The Real Slim Shady’ before he closed the set with ‘Not Afraid’ and ‘Lose Yourself.’

Lorde Is Speechless:

She’s won Grammys, is curating the soundtrack for one of the biggest movie franchises and has conquered the global charts but it seems Lorde, 17, still gets shocked by just how far she has come.

Opening her set on Friday, Lorde told the audience according to the Mail Online: “This is more people than in my whole town, my whole high school and everyone at the airport in New Zealand…it’s really f****** cool!”

She added: “I’m so lost for words… and that doesn’t happen very often.” No, we’re sure it doesn’t! Lorde treated her fans to her number one debut single ‘Royals’ as well as other popular tracks ‘Team’ and ‘Tennis Court.’

Iggy Azalea ‘Makes It Hot’:

According to Billboard, some audience members admitted to only knowing one song from the Aussie rapper – obviously ‘Fancy’ – but it looks as though she may have made a whole batch of new fans with the rapper bringing down the stage with her 40-minute set.

Opening with ‘Beat Down,’ Iggy kept the tempo going with her thumping hip-hop tracks including ‘Change Your Life,’ ‘Pu$$y’ and of course, her record-breaking hit single which features Charli XCX.

However, several outlets have hailed her rendition of ‘Black Widow,’ her brand new single which features BFF Rita Ora, as the standout performance from her set with the crowd lapping up the new song.

Iggy told the crowd: “Let’s make it hot, Chicago.” And make it hot she did!

R. Kelly wasn’t banned from this festival:

Just days after the legendary R&B singer was banned from performing at the Fashion Meets Music Festival in Ohio due to his previous sexual assault and child pornography allegations, R. Kelly hit the stage as a surprise guest during Chance The Rapper’s Saturday performance.

The Chicago native collaborated with Chance for a rendition of his hit ‘Ignition’ (Remix), ‘The World’s Greatest’ and ‘Bump N’ Grind.’
