If you are like us, your Vanity in your room or bathroom is packed with products. From hair products, makeup, brushes, and bobbypins, your vanity may be just a cluttered mess of things. But let’s face it, chances are at one point in your life, you have wanted a nice, clean, pretty vanity to get ready at. We’ve come up with a list of ways that your can organize your vanity to make it a clear space for you to store products and get ready in the morning.

Start From Scratch

Take everything off of your vanity and start sorting through. Get rid of the makeup you don’t use, the expired creams, the 3-year-old hair spray and the q-tips that were left behind in the open. Be sure to dust and wipe off your surface, getting rid of the dust and the bacteria. If you keep your makeup and hair brushes out in the open, consider giving those a wash as well.

Organize and Categorize

Start categorizing your things. Though this may seem self-explanatory, you’ll be surprised how much categorizing your products to make it easier to find a home for them. Find what you want to keep in your room and what belongs in the bathroom. If you live alone, you most likely have ample space to use. If you like with your family or roommates, be smart about what you keep in the bathroom versus your room.

Storage Solutions

If your vanity is a little on the small side, consider building storage for and around it. Don’t worry, you don’t have to take out a hammer and nails to make it yourself (although, if you are handy, go for it). Buy a set of drawers to put beside or underneath your vanity depending on its size. A cult favorite is Ikea’s Alex drawers but if you don’t want to spend that kind of money, try finding an old drawer set from your basement or local thrift shop to repurpose it like this one. Or, head to Target or Wal-Mart and get cheap plastic drawers.

Alternatively, build up. Add shelves above your vanity to give some decorative and graphic appeal. If you want something a little different, try adding a rod above or to the side of your vanity. Add some hooks and start hanging containers.

If your vanity is in the bathroom, build off the shelving you already have. Start putting in hooks inside a cabinet door to store your hair appliances or add a hanging storage solution behind your door. This will still give you easy access to the things you use on a daily basis.

Make it Pretty

This is the part that gets fun. Get creative! There are plenty of easy decorating options that also double-up as storage solutions. Here are some easy ideas:

Use a cake tray to display your nail polishes. It will clear out clutter on your vanity but also show off all the pretty colors you have.

Display your perfumes on a fancy serving tray to make your vanity look polished and put together. Not to mention it looks really pretty!

Add some beads or gems (available at your local dollar store) to a clear glass car or container to put your makeup brushes on display.

If you don’t have a lot of space or can’t add more storage, use a cart to display and organize your products.
