There’s a reason (or 10) why this 90s staple has made a comeback – because Basic Bitches Love Crop tops. Scroll through Instagram on a Saturday morning and at least 90% of the girls who posted pictures from the night before are sporting a crop top one way or another. Flip through a magazine and see them not only on them worn on the streets, but the runways too. Everybody’s in on the trend, from Kim Kardashian (the girl loves her crop top and midi skirts) to Lorde. Heck, you could even go the down the Ashlee Simpson route and even wear a crop top and skirt ensemble as your wedding dress. The basic bitch just can’t seem to get enough of crop tops!

It doesn’t matter if you’re lacking curves or if you have an abundance of them, if you’re tall or short, this is one fashion trend every girl can wear – and that’s why the basic bitch loves them. Crop tops usually ends just below your rib cage, which for almost everyone is their tiniest part, so it puts a focus on their waist.

Whether your bra size is an A cup or a DD, crop tops somehow (almost magically) make everyone’s boobs look bigger. Because of the cut of the top and where it hits on your body it emphasizes what you’ve got (no push up bra needed!). And who’s ever complained about that?

During the Winter, its often harder to show off all the hard work and progress that you’ve been making at the gym (we know you don’t attend all those yoga and boot camp workout seshs for nothing!), but crop tops help a sister out! They show off all your obliques, but in a subtle way, so you aren’t being too in your face about your hot body. Plus, the idea of wearing a crop top is often motivation enough to hit the gym and get healthy – which is a win/win situation if we do say so ourselves.

One thing about crop tops that other tops can’t beat is that they don’t ride up – so we aren’t tugging and pulling and yanking it down all day long. Which, for the girl who has one of those long TNA winter jacket, is a saviour – because we all know the struggle to keep your shirt from riding up while wearing one of those jackets is pretty much impossible. But with a crop top, you can throw one on in the morning and not have to worry about it for the rest of the day! There’s no stretching, no wrinkling, no coming untucked from your jeans, no restrictions what so ever – crop tops are a no-fuss clothing item and that’s why the basic bitch loves them.

Because, let’s be honest, are you really a basic bitch if you don’t wear the same outfit as your best friends to Veld? Basic bitches love to match their outfits with each other and they want you to know (Omg #Twins). If your friend goes shopping and spots a cute crop top, you bet she’s gonna text you and ask what color and size you want yours in so you can both wear it that night – just make sure you snap a picture and post it on Instagram – or it didn’t happen.

Saw a crop top you like at Forever 21, but you just bought one at H&M? You don’t have to worry about choosing between the two of them because (thankfully) crop tops don’t break the bank. Some of my most favourite crop tops have been purchased for under $15-20 and what girl doesn’t like snagging something super cute and for a great price?

Want to look hot, but also not like you’re trying too hard? That’s what the crop top is for! Most of them don’t show too much skin, when paired with something high waisted (say a midi skirt or a cropped trouser) which is nice when you want to wear it to dinner with your boyfriend or rock one to work. And there’s something about showing those little couple of inches of skin that looks hot, but sophisticated as well.

Girl please, we know you can’t have just one crop top. It’s like an addiction. Once you buy one, you’ve got to have them all – in every color, style and fabric possible. You start justifying your purchases. “But I don’t have a bustier crop top” “But this one is blue and all my other’s are black.” They become something you collect and sometimes trade with friends (but just for the night).

Not sure what to wear today? 9 times out of 10 a crop top is the perfecrt answer. Wear one to school, work, on a date, out with friends, the options are endless. And thankfully you have enough in your closet that you could wear a new one every day of the week (and probably for the next month too).
