A flaw discovered by dr.WEB  in the Apple Mac operating system has left 17,000 (and counting) computers Infected and vulnerable to Hackers. Although there isn’t a need to freak out just yet. None of the infected computers have been reported to be used for an attack yet, so the current assumption is that the hackers are still attempting to grow their network.

Using Reddit as a Connection

The dr. WEB details exactly how the backdoo works, and if the whole read was a little bit fo a TL;DR, then here’s the low down.

The hackers left a series of commands in the form of comments in a discussion thread of one of Reddit’s popular gaming subreddits, /r/Minecraft, for the Software to find.

Once your computer is hacked and infected, the software elicits a program that searches for the comments on Reddit. Once connected, the software creates a connection to a command server in Russia. When a connection has been established, hackers can then Remotely Access infected computers.

Once infected, the community of hacked computers (botnets) can be remotely access by the hackers and become submissive to their commands. In the past, botnets have been utilized to send out spam mail, direct traffic to specific sites (causing them to crash) and to do other nefarious things online. Remember how the online hacking collective Anonymous sucessfully crash multiple government owned websites? They were able to do it through a high drive of traffic.
