Get Rid Of The Mess! 7 Simple Ways To Declutter Your Home

Nobody likes a cluttered home. But then again, nobody really likes to tidy and clean either. And that’s where clutter starts to build and accumulate. Not only is it unsightly, but the look of a room saturated with random things can contribute to stress and feeling out of control. Start the new year right and use these 7 simple solutions to Declutter your home!

1. Make use of cable organizers

Cables and wires tangle and clutter up your outlets and corners. And the struggle is real when you’re trying to identify a certain cable for some purpose. This is where cable organizers come in to play. There are so many DIY options that make them simple and cheap to acquire. And they’re so useful. They magically solve the problem of figuring out which wire connects to what, and some even hide the wires all together.

2. Stop buying useless things

It might be cute, it might be novel — but it does not have a place in your house. It’s always tempting to purchase those little bits and bobs that catch your eye, but what are you really going to do with them? That tiny puppy figurine, that Mickey Mouse stuffed doll — what’s it going to do but clutter your space? The trick is to say no and refrain from buying things that just take up space. Declutter by not accumulating in the first place.

3. Storage boxes

Storage boxes come in so many different looks and styles — you’re bound to find a design to fit your home. Not only do they look neat and effortlessly coordinated, but they’re immensely practical. It’s not going to look out of place at the base of your bed or up against the wall. You can even stack them. They make the most of your space and look good doing it!

4. Keep dividers in drawers

Drawers are a great home for a bunch of your things. But sometimes the inside of drawers can get as cluttered as the room before. They’re like large abysses of empty space, and we like to typically throw things in there, shut the Drawer, and forget about it. Then next time we need something, we have to sort about all the stuff to find what we need.

Drawer dividers will help declutter this space. If you don’t want to purchase them, you can use miscellaneous cardboard pieces, take little boxes — basically anything rectangular will fit into a grid in your drawer.

5. Make use of closet space

Closets are great for storing things. Clothes? Hats? Belts? They belong in the Closet, not on your chair. And let’s not forget about the base of your closet too. You can stack up (neatly labelled) storage boxes in there. No sense in wasting all that extra space just because your clothes hanging rod doesn’t reach that far down. Closets aren’t only for clothing. Whatever you have laying around, declutter by stuffing it (strategically) in the closet. Out of sight, out of mind.

6. Give every item a designated home

Declutter your spaces by giving everything a designated spot where it belongs. After you use something, put it back where it belongs. If everything has its own spot (in a pile of other miscellaneous things on your desk doesn’t count), you’ll quickly be able to see what’s been misplaced and what needs to go where. The thing with clutter is that when an item ends up on the corner of the desk, you kind of decide that that’s a suitable spot for it. Along with the other junk you’ve got piled up there.

7. Throw stuff away

If you’re not using it, you don’t need it, clearly. So get rid of it. Whether you do decide to throw it out, recycle it, or give it to someone else, this is an essential step to declutter your home.

What other ways can you declutter your space?
