Summer Books to Keep in Your Beach Bag This Summer

Summer is here, and that means there will be lots of time to be spent lounging on the beach! The best thing you can do while lying on the Beach is read a Book.  In my opinion, you don’t want just any book.  Anything too heavy or challenging just isn’t conducive to the whole “relaxation” thing.  I don’t want to be reading Aristotle in the sand, I want to be reading simple stories about young love and imagined worlds. Personally, I love going to the beach with a couple of young adult novels that I can just get lost in and not have to think to hard about.  Although they are usually  not exactly the highest calibre of literature, they are a great way to unwind and relax – like watching a couple episodes of Sex in the City!

Here are the top 10 books that we will be keeping in our Beach Bag this summer.

1) Eleanor & Park by Rainbow RowellPark Sheridan, a biracial boy (half Korean, half white), and Eleanor Douglas, an overweight red-haired girl, are two misfit teenagers living in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1986. The book is a love story — Eleanor and Park fall in love over comic books and mixed tapes on their school bus — but deals with issues such as domestic abuse, child abuse, race, bullying and body image.

2) On The Fence by Kasie West: This is a typical, light romantic comedy about a boy-next-door and a tomboy girl that feels like she doesn’t fit in.  You might be rolling your eyes, but I promise, you will laugh, cry, and fall in love through out the course of this book.

3) Let’s Get Lost by Adi AlsaidFive strangers. Countless adventures. One epic way to get lost.

4) If I Stay by Gayle FormanSeventeen-year-old Mia is faced with some tough ones: Stay true to her first love—music—even if it means losing her boyfriend and leaving her family and friends behind? Then something happens that changes the course of her life forever.

5) Lies We Tell Ourselves by Robin TalleyIn 1959 Virginia, the lives of two girls on opposite sides of the battle for civil rights will be changed forever.

6) Falling Into Place by Amy Zhang: On the day Liz Emerson tries to die, they had reviewed Newton’s laws of motion in physics class. Then, after school, she put them into practice by running her Mercedes off the road.

7) Top Ten Clues Your Clueless by Liz CzukasChloe would rather be anywhere than locked in work jail (aka the break room) with five of her coworkers . . . even if one of them is Tyson. But if they can band together to clear their names, what looks like a total disaster might just make Chloe’s list of Top Ten Best Moments.

8) Anatomy of a Misfit by Andrea Portes: Anatomy of a Misfit is Mean Girls meets The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and Anika’s hilarious, sarcastic delivery will appeal to readers.

9) No Place to Fall by Jaye Robin Brown: Amber is faced with an impossible choice between her promise as an artist and the people she loves. Amber always thought she knew what a good girl would do. But between “right” and “wrong,” there’s a whole world of possibilities.

10) Not in the Script by Amy Finnigan: Millions of people witnessed Emma Taylor’s first kiss—a kiss that needed twelve takes and four camera angles to get right. After spending nearly all of her teen years performing on cue, Emma can’t help but wonder if any part of her life is real anymore
