Are you caught up with this year’s slang?
It’s time to get out from under your rock and pick up on some of the new social quipps that have been floating out of mouths of youngsters. If you want to prove just how cool you still are to your friends, here are a handful of Slang words that you should understand and use. We’ll sprinkle some of the words throughout in the examples to help you start utilizing your new found vocab. So watch out and be prepared!
Not to be easily confused for a shortened version of “babe/baby”, bae is actually an acronym for “Before Anything Else”. An endearing term denoting a loving relationship.
“Girl, you’re my bae.”
A term that denotes one thousand dollars. The term derives from the elastic bands that are wrapped around a set of bills that represent one thousand dollars.
“Bands a make her dance.”
If you were an 80’s or 90’s kid then this term will be familiar to you. As fashion recycles, so does language. Well… sometimes. Bounce is a verb that means to leave.
“Yo this place be ratchet, let’s bounce.”
If one is interested in ghetto-fying the word or sounding like Snoop Dog…
“Yo dis ish be ratchet, les bizounce doe.”
Crazy. Wild. Insane. Ridiculous. Need we say more?
“My mom told me to break up with my boyfriend, she cray.”
Hangry is a feeling that you may feel when you are so hungry that you become angry. The discomfort of hunger may sometimes induce frustration, resulting in anger.
“Man, I haven’t eaten since 6 AM this morning. Wow that’s been about 7 hours, I’m starting to feel a little hangry.”
A term denoting a ghetto diva that assumes that everybody wants them.
“Ugh she just waltzed in and started flirting with my boyfriend.”
This instructional word is used when you’re asking someone to come to something. I can also mean that the person who is saying it is somewhere and is telling others to meet up with them.
“This party is bumpin’ reach!”
To slay means to have done something amazing, to have destroyed or to have killed it at something.
“YAAAAAASSSSS I slayed that fashion show.”
At times, ratchet girls may include an exclamatory shout of slay at the end of a sentence to prove a point. Or maybe even for no reason at all.
“I bet Ms. Thomspon don’t know I cheated dat test. SLAAAAYYYYYY.”
A term of agreement of acknowledgement of validity.
“That pizza was the bomb!”
An exclamatory term used to convey agreement over something fantabulous. The user may choose to add or remove the amount of “A”s and “S”s as desired.
“I BOUGHT THE NEW MILEY CYRUS CD. YAAAAAAAASSSS SHE IS FANTABULOUS YAAAASSSSSSS. SLAAAAAAAYYYYYY.”
What you sayin’
A phrase asking “What are you doing”. Most likely because the person being asked has to talk about what they’re doing, meaning they’re saying something.
“Bro I’m at Subway, was feeling super hangry. What you sayin’? Reach!”
“Nah man, I’m about to go hang out with my bae.”
Also another term of agreement.
“That movie was cray.”
