Snorkeling with Sharks in Fiji

Tags: sharks ocean boat
When we got back to the mainland in Nadi, Fiji, we decided to do a trip to Denarau Island, where you can do a snorkeling day trip. We booked through Viator Ultimate Snorkel with sharks and it was a great choice. You first get on a cruise ship and take a 2-hour ride on the ship and you get to your destination to Yasawa Island.

An Incredible Encounter
While we were on the island of Yasawa, you get into the group that you will be snorkeling with. Then they talk about what you need to bring with you. Quick tip-Just bring your towel and change of clothing before getting onto the Boat. You will get wet so, wearing your swimsuit only will be fine. It's warm and the Ocean is warm.

Face To Face

After we got our group, then we head on a small boat to where they feed the sharks. Don't worry they feed the sharks after we get out of the ocean. It takes about a half hour to get to this place in the middle of the ocean to swim with the sharks. You encounter the black tip reef sharks.

I was so excited about this activity. When you jump into the ocean you will see all the cute sharks all around the reef. You can't touch them just in case they want to bite you, but they will come around you and check you out. You will love this if you go to Fiji.

Is It Safe?!

I know what you’re thinking though – is it safe!?
We were briefed by our tour guide on what to do and about shark behaviors. At no point, I didn't feel uncomfortable with the sharks. I was scared for 5 mins, because hey its sharks and they are wild animals of the oceans. Some people sat on the boat, but why waste your money and not go in the ocean? its $160 USD per person. So if you are going to pay for this, I would advise you to just jump and snorkel. They have life jackets if you can't swim.

This activity would need to be safe, or if someone died, then I don't think this would be available to do in Fiji. I went when it was raining and it was fun, just the boat ride was rough with the harsh rain, but when we got to the sharks the rain went away.

Safety is their priority so you will be safe no matter where you are around. They have the staff on the boat and a couple of the staff to go in the ocean with you!
