Hit The Road: The Top UK Road Trips

With the current weather conditions, it is doubtful that anyone will be venturing anywhere through the floods – unless they’re great fans of recreational mud walking and winter swimming! However, drier weather will eventually be upon us – and in our efforts to look forward to brighter, sunnier days, we’ve made a list of some of the UK’s best road trips.

Cornwall

This spectacular scenic route comes recommended by National Geographic, who included it in their book “Drives of a Lifetime”. The Cornish peninsula contains both two-lane highways and narrow roads, and is also home to the South West Coastal Path, which is the longest footpath in Britain. With seaside villages, steep cliffs and picturesque views, this is one journey not to be missed.

Isle of Man

The Manx Loop, a 75 mile, 3 hour circuit around the Isle of Man, is a great road trip if you’re looking for unspoilt landscapes and sea views. Beginning at Douglas, visitors can take a trip around the island, passing by the famous Peel harbour, the Tourist Trophy road racing track, and explore the Snaefell summit.

Scottish Highlands

If you’re looking for a lengthy road trip, then the 200 mile journey through the Scottish Highlands is an excellent choice. Shell recommends that travellers begin in Glasgow, head north to Invergarry, then west towards the Kyle of Lochalsh, and then finally journey along the zigzag stretch to Applecross. From Rannoch Moor to Loch Lomond, and Glencoe to Pass of the Cattle, this epic trip promises to be one unforgettable adventure.

The EVO Triangle

The EVO triangle is the name given to the triangle formed by parts of the A5, the A543 and the B4501 in the Denbigh Moors, Wales. This 20 mile route boasts some wonderful scenery of the surrounding farms, crags and moors, as well as sightings of the occasional wandering livestock. The triangle is named after EVO magazine, who declared the route their favourite testing ground for reviewing cars.

Lake District

There are a number of different routes one can take to explore the Lake District, varying in length. The Telegraph, Avis and this handy site all have recommendations for journeying by car through this beautiful area – you’re certainly spoilt for choice when it comes to exploring the Lake District. With awe-inspiring scenery comprising of mountains, lakes and valleys, the Lake District has plenty to offer, especially if you plan to take a break from driving and explore on foot.
