This is an unbelievably tragic story. 16-year-old Kyle Plush of Cincinnati died after being trapped by the folding seats in the back of the Honda Odyssey Minivan he had driven to school. The teen was able to call 911 using voice-assist on his phone, but for reasons that are still under investigation, policie officers were unable to locate the van. He made the call at 3:16 p.m., but his van wasn’t located until over five hours later. His father was able to find it, but by then, it was too late.

Now, investigators and officials in Hamilton County are trying to piece together what went wrong. The 911 dispatcher who took Kyle’s call has been placed on administrative leave. It appears as though she didn’t convey important information to officers who initially responded to the call for help. Family and friends of the beloved teen are desperate for answers, from officials as well as the maker of the Minivan Kyle died in. The 2014 Honda Odyssey minivan has a folding third row, but there aren’t any recalls for equipment issues on that particular model. Honda has issued a statement about the tragic death.

Now we wait as investigators figure out where everything went wrong, and try to determine why Kyle wasn’t found.
