Many of us have pets in our lives who are simply part of our family. Our pets are like our children and for many they’ve been around longer than our actual children. As amazing as it is to see kids grow up with pets and love them and bond with them, sometimes tragedies can happen. Often times it’s the Family Dog that is responsible for that tragedy.

Family dogs and children can be such a wonderful combination. I have so many friends with dogs and even my kids have been bugging me lately for a dog. Dogs are such loving and caring and sweet animals, but they are animals and they can snap.

Unfortunately we’ve seen many instances in the past year of children dying or being injured at the hands of the family dog. A 3-week-old Michigan infant was mauled to death by the family’s three dogs after being left alone for only a few minutes. One grandmother was even charged with murder after her grandson died from being mauled by her pet pit bulls.

One Boston father recently had to stab his family dog to death after the dog mauled his daughter. His actions may have saved his daughters life.
