Eyeglass World suggests 4 ways to keep your eyes healthy: eating well, getting regular Eye exams, resting your eyes and protecting them!
A major component of healthy eyes starts first with what you’re eating. Leafy greens like kale, spinach and collard greens are a great choice. You can also try foods high in omega 3 fatty acids, vitamin C and E, and zinc to help keep age-related vision problems and diabetes at bay. Salmon, nuts, eggs, citrus fruits and beans are your best friends!
Get your eyes checked regularly
As a yearly preventative measure, you should visit an eye doctor for an annual exam. This helps prevent or treat any vision changes such as dry eye, eye straining, or blurriness. Regular Eye Exams can help detect eye diseases early on. They can also let you know if there are changes in your prescription.
Rest your eyes
We mean it! Sleeping is the best way to rest your eyes. You can also step away from the computer, tablets and cell phones at least an hour before bed. The lights of your screen can make it harder for you to sleep at night. It can also cause eye strain and make them feel tired and dry. If you spend a lot of time on the computer, be sure to take regular breaks and blink often throughout the day.
Protect your eyes
As temperatures start to cool down, you need to protect your eyes. The sun’s ultraviolet rays can be very harmful to unprotected eyes. While you’re outside, be sure to wear sunglasses or contacts that blocks 99% of UV-A & UV-B rays, even if it’s cloudy. Exposure to the sun can cause eye strain, eye damage, and ocular melanoma.
